I ain't no detailing guru therefore am not in a position to compare abt the diff types of pads available in the market. But from a mechanical standpoint, the design of the Meguiar's is not ideal for durability:-

1) The foam backing does not extend all the way to the outside of pad. At the point where the backing meets the pad, mechanical stress between the backing and pad will cause the pad to shear off with constant use.

2) When the pad is attached to the DA, there is only a very small area of the backing being exposed. So when the user tries to remove the pad from the DA, unwittingly the user pulls directly on the pad instead of grapping the velco backing area.

I stand to be corrected.

1)did i ask u to compare the difference between the both,am just saying what pad i am using..and i am not saying meguire is good..i m not saying u are wrong

2)yes,at the mechanical standpoint, the area of contact is very little..theoretically it shears but i have a pad, valco is 4" and the pad is 6"..and i can tell u i got this pad from detailogy..i have been using plenty of time,i want it to break off but it just doesn't..

Bro, neither am I saying that you are wrong or that Meguiar's is no good. I am just offering my personal opinion on why the pads could have failed. In the hands of an experienced user like you, I am sure it will last a long time but for a novice, he/she may have unwittingly abused the pads resulting in premature failure.

bro,i am just like u too,learning...but my another guess, might be the machine too..my kaki uses ryobi and the other uses bosch..both using meguire pad but look like the pad on ryobi tend to shear faster..after all there are too many factors, sometime just cant be bother..spoiled and throw..so will have the chance to try new stufflaugh.gif

have a good daywink.gif

Yes, you are right. One have to be careful when removing the pad after user or it will tear very easily. Also, ensure the pad is of the right size and fits properly or the backing will tear the pad(this happens very quickly if you use force).

Would be good if the velcro pad on the pad is slightly bigger than the machine's backing.

Will try LC pads the next time, one of my Meg's polishing pad is already torn quite badly. [shakehead]

Should try LC. Have the variable contact types for yellow and white and both still work fine after a year. I also handwash in Dynamo liquid after each use. The pads still look brand new with the velcro backing and foam surface intact.
