Case 2 is always a recipe for disaster. Young man, fierce-looking car (looks fierce only), female passenger. With that, the balls are believed to swell to 3 times the normal size (illusion only), and they start thinking with the head inside the pants.

 

For me it is the opp, I drive faster when I am alone (not aggressively) & more relaxed when I m with someone cos I maybe just having a conversation with my passenger. When I m alone, I have no one to talk to so I concentrate on just driving alone as it is not an enjoyment hence tend to cruise faster.

I think "graciousness" is the biggest keyword we need to factor in the singaporean driving mentality.

When I was in USA, the cars there are much bigger and higher cc (>3L easily).

However, the drivers there are much more considerate on the roads. Sometimes,

just cannot understand why our local-born ppl are so ungracious on the road..

 

well simply selfish and only think of themselves... and they can do it to you.. but when the same thing happens to them.. they can get piss off.. we cnt...

I have done about 80 days driving about 10000km in the UK and in Aust in the last 10 years or so. Somehow, there is much better discipline and grace there.

 

1. Not much road hogging

2. Not much speeding (except on UK expressways where people drive fast 130-140km/h but very safely)

3. Signalling is a norm

4. People let you change lanes (in the UK, if someone flashes headlights, it means "I give way", opposite of here)

5. Very little weaving, cutting queues.

 

Much more pleasant and I have NEVER seen a single accident in all my driving in the UK and Australia. And not slow, esp in the UK.

one example how better the drivers in Oz are:

 

during family trip to brisbane, my brother was unfamiliar with one particular area, ended up driving wrong direction in a one-way road saw a T-junction few metres ahead with a few cars waiting to turn right towards us

 

in wat would have been a series of horn blasts if it were to happen here, the drivers calmly signalled us to move out of the one-way road first we drove off and waved thank you

 

that's tolerance, graciousness, and courtesy that is lacking in our roads.

I feel malaysian drivers are better drivers.... least there are good examples on NSH where they dont road hog at the speed on 110km/h. Still got some black sheeps but generally they keep left. .

 

When driving in peneng,its about knowing how the ppl drive ther..i hardly hear horns, ppl gif way, one will also tend to follow the system of driving over ther. ...

As agreed. In Malacca too, ppl will give way to you PATIENTLY even if you signal your intention last minute. Even though the flow the traffic is very jammed. I have been there a couple of times but surprises me is that they hardly use their horn, the only purpose for that is when the car is at stationery and obstructing the flow of traffic.
