Darkair Neutral Newbie October 5, 2006 Share October 5, 2006 Hey guys, My ride is about 3mths old..it has alrdy gone thru the 5k servicing, and im still on mineral oil..I am on 15inch rims and evrything is stock and i have no excess items in my boot... I noticed my consumption has gone up..before the 5k servicing, i am still averaging 12km/l..now im abt 10-11km/l...although my routing is abt 40%city 60%highway, i still find it abit high consumption wise.. How abt the rest of you guys? Care to share feedbacks on your rides? Another thing i noticed, when im on reverse gear, i can make out some cackling sounds from the engine..is it normal? My friend's ride is averaging 15km/l and has nvr dropped below 15km/l... I have tried driving slowly and not letting the rpm exceed 2.5k but it doesn't seem to help.. Pls share your opinions and advices..thanks!! ↡ Advertisement
Toalson 1st Gear October 5, 2006 Share October 5, 2006 Most of the time its tire pressure.
Darkair Neutral Newbie October 5, 2006 Author Share October 5, 2006 hi toalson, wats the recommended tyre pressure?
Blackmafia Neutral Newbie October 5, 2006 Share October 5, 2006 (edited) Petrol grade and tyre pressure shd be at 220-230. Edited October 5, 2006 by Blackmafia
Toalson 1st Gear October 6, 2006 Share October 6, 2006 Not sure about ur tire profile but guess ard 220-230 should be fine. However do note, that is when u pump when its cold. Less than 2km of travel.
Bluedevil Neutral Newbie October 6, 2006 Share October 6, 2006 Hi there, Like what was replied, the engine oil and the tire pressure do play a part. And also the way you make your journey from point A to point B. I'm using full syn 0-50W mobil 1, 16" rims, and travels 30% highway and 70% city, the FC is consistently 12 - 13 km/l. But I have tried travelling 70% highway and 30% city and consistently getting FC of 15-16km/l. (Readings calculated when I go for full tank topup) Just to share :) Cheers. Evo7788 Neutral Newbie October 6, 2006 Share October 6, 2006 hi all airwavers, my ride is abt 2.5mths old, 15" sports rims, fitted with voltage stabiliser and grounding cable, with no other modifications. going for 5k servicing next weekend though already done 4.9k this week. every tank averaging 12.5 - 13km/litre. not much to complain for this car, only that i have to rev very harad before i can feel any v-tec power at 4k rpm. only 1 technical issue which i see quite common, is the whistling or rattling sound when engaged in reverse gear. i believe many airwavers would have faced this problem also. otherwise it is such an eye pleaser that almost every passenger who sits in will pay compliment to the car design (both interior and exterior)
Thermodynamics Neutral Newbie October 6, 2006 Share October 6, 2006 One of my friend also experience cranking sound in gear box. He sold it at a lost after 6 mths. Crap car.
Thermodynamics Neutral Newbie October 6, 2006 Share October 6, 2006 Then you are lucky to have people compliment your car. Many I know say shits about this car's design though. Very station wagon like. Too MPV wannabe. Well, it is up to individual preference.
Evo7788 Neutral Newbie October 6, 2006 Share October 6, 2006 well, anyway it depends on individual preference. for me i like this car for its wagon backside and its interior space. no matter what it is CBU japanese car.
Darkair Neutral Newbie October 7, 2006 Author Share October 7, 2006 I agree with you evo..space is my top priority, thats y i bought the airwave.. vtec engine is good to have as well.. by the way, u mentioned that you are using a stabiliser and still averaging 12-13km/l, wats your routing like, more highway or city? Wats the color of your ride? Does anyone know wat are the sounds coming out from engaging reverse gear then, is that a manufacturer fault? Would like to know if it requires any immediate attention.. i hope my comsumption will improve after i have my 10k servicing..
Huggable Clutched October 7, 2006 Share October 7, 2006 What's the insurance premium like? Was eyeing the Airwave, but settled for a Chevy as I didn't want to get from PI.

Sunray Neutral Newbie October 9, 2006 Share October 9, 2006 It always amazed me that airwave with such a long body comes only with a 1.5L engine. Wonder what's its body weight?
Chihuahua Neutral Newbie October 9, 2006 Share October 9, 2006 Hello, which petrol brand and type you used ? Can try Shell 95 and monitor ?
Darkair Neutral Newbie October 9, 2006 Author Share October 9, 2006 Hi huahua, i m on shell 95 all along...think will switch to shell 98 after my current tank runs out and monitor... My gut feeling is the lousy engine oil changed during my 5k servicing at JXXXSPEED..tink will change to full synthetic earlier at 8k instead of 10k servicing.. If all else fails, that means the problem lies with my right foot...
Karu 6th Gear October 9, 2006 Share October 9, 2006 Juz change out syn motor oil from 'authorized workshop' to Mobil1 during 10K servicing. The FC improved from ~ 11+ to 13+ km/l for the past 2 weeks. Feels more power also. That confirms my suspicion that 'authorized workshop' overcharge (> 100 bicks!!) for crappy syn motor oil during 5k service.
Diesel 1st Gear October 9, 2006 Share October 9, 2006 I visited city forum also have a few feedbacks on the noise when in reverse gear. Airwave not cvt right? ↡ Advertisement
