typically, the mp3s available on the net are rather low quality ones, with typical bitrate of 128kbps which is sufficient for general listening. good quality ones shd be in the order of at least 192kbps or higher (larger size).

Sorry, old man here who is a NOOB when it comes to these things. but how do I obtain legal software that will allow me to convert my CDs into MP3 format to play in my car's MP3/CD head unit?

I don't use media player because to me CDeX is simpler and faster.

A mp3's song information is contained in its ID3 tag. If no valid tag is found, the player should display the filename itself. Do take note that not all players can display chinese words.

if you're using windows xp, then it should come with windows media player pre-installed and this program can be used to convert your CDs to mp3s (using the "Rip" function).

Before burning any song onto a blank disc, playback your desired mp3s on the windows media player first. On the right side of the program, you'll see a playlist of your mp3s, right-click on one mp3 song, then select "Advanced Tag Editor" and a small window appears. You will see the tab "Track Info" where you can input the song title and album title and genre, click on tab "Artist Info" to input singer/band name. Click "Apply" and "OK" to save the changes.

Depending on your car's stereo unit, you may have to look for the button which scrolls through the MP3 information e.g. artist name, song title, file name, etc. Check back your stereo unit's instruction manual so that you'll know which button to press.

Hi...

I tried using the rip function in Windows Media Player Ver 9, but it converts the track into .wma format. My headunit can only play MP3s [smallcry] . Is there a way to change the output format? Thanks in advance.
