Sound insulation

Insulating the floor pan inside the car with damping will definitely blunt that exhaust note in the car plus kill a lot of tyre road noise. $250 Want to go further can use hard bitumen sheet on door panels stop sound vibes travelling thro the car and deaden the doors to sound. There's lots of material ard but the stuff I use I believe is the most effective bitumen and lead flexi sheet mould and stick like second skin to metal panels. $110 per door. Material and install.

$250?! That sounds cool... Am thinking of trying the Australian product SoundGard for the floor pan only..Where did u install your bitumen and lead flexi sheet?

Bro,

All I installed it at my own place cuz I run a Car Audio Install shop and have done many and all types of vehicles. [cool]

For the floor pan damping I use a material that is totally effective and is heat proof and fire retardent. If I were U I wouldn't get hung up on brand and where the stuff comes from. Makes absolutely no diff except in price.

The sound proofing stuff is a little diff. While most of the stuff works, some works better than others. The recognized best of the best is Dynamat X'treme soundproof and lead sandwich sheet. But the Px also x'treme. The stuff I use is just as good as X'treme but is a fraction of the px.

Bros here who have done stuff here know my money back guarantee policy. Brands, claims, theories etc are just heresay compared to actual guaranteed results.

My guarantee for the damping is very obvious reduction in road noise and that exhaust logically will also be dampened efficiently from coming into the cabin. Of course can probably still hear a little but will be significantly muffled 4 sure.

The doors will be like solid timber wood, dead to the knock and a resounding thump to the slam shut. [;)]

Thanks for the info, AutoS..

i guess i'll probably be doing only the floor pan first.....mind posting your mailing address?

need another advice from ya. Just kinda wondering if your choice of material works for the bonnet too? how effectively is doing it to the bonnet?! 10% noise reduction, perhaps??!!

Cheers [;)]

I'm in Joo Chiat. Give me a call 97870213. The stuff can be used no problemo on the hood. It's soundproof damping, heat proof and fire retardent and works a lot better than that cottony stuff that's usually used.

But the damping on bonnet purpose is not to shield noise into cabin but to absorb engine noise to make engine a little quiter. How well it works depends on how noisy the engine is in the first place.

Hi AutoS,

I'm new to this forum and found this sound proofing interesting. Does tire place a significance difference to sound damping? The Sunny I drive is deafening my daily road travel. Although I have installed the SoundGuard, it was a disappointment to my expectation. I'm not expecting a Lexus insultation by at least a consolation to the daily travel.

To fully isolate the sound, u need to sound proof ure entire car. Tat will cost u 2K for a good sound proofing product. Did u remove the silencer ? It should not be tat noisy if there is a silencer. BTW, how much did u pay for the remus ? Izit a straight thru or semi - flow ? Wat abt LTA approval ?

Hi Racar,

Pardon my ignorance...The soundguard u did, was it to the bonnet or the floor pan?! Can i ask how much u pay for it and when did u get the job done??

Tyres definitely plays a part in the sound thingy..I guess it's as significant as hearing your engine when u step on the accelerator. Personally, i don't mind the tyre sound but it's the engine sound that can drive me crazy. [:|]

Racar,

Give me a buzz 97870213 cuz we are in the midst of shifting so I don't know new no. yet. We can arrange to look at the sound proof material used and how it was used. My consultation no charge no worries.

Hi 1999GLXi,

I did the soundguard for floor pan, doors, and boot as well. The bonnet already have one done by the manufacturer. What's still annoying is the engine and the road noise. I paid 1K+ but the result is disappointing.

The installation is done in patches as the reason was, "not all places are accessible!"

Any advise?

Racar
