In Singapore, sadly, your success is measured by your material gains.

Absolutely agree.

When my ex-colleagues get together; we talk who and who gets promotion, how much the bonus and increments. gossip.gif

When industry friends get together; we talk about economy doing well as well as who and who is doing well and getting a new car/condo. unimpressed.gif

When joining in the opposite sex's conversation; they talk about who and who dating this/that investment banker/doctor who drives a swanky car. shakehead.gif

When good friends get together; we only encourage each other and talk about family, kids and our collective future in Singapore. nod.gif

We never talk about money, who is doing well or not except on mahjong table. laugh.gif

I so agree on with you on this.....thats why recently, feel that Im getting more and more distant with some of my friends, my close friends in fact...because all we talk about are promotions, jobs, money, condos etc...start to wonder if they are really my good friends...I can accept ex-colleagues, colleagues or industry frens having this kind of talk because its part of work and business, in fact i do enjoy it because can update myself happenings but when it comes to friends......sigh, i really wonder, really like 话不投机半句多

kind of miss my couple friends who moved to US liao, yeah we talk about all these as well but more to link it with our lives our goals, family etc.. well, visit them next year.......

When you started comparing yourself to those people who earn slightly lesser than you.

You should know the day would come sooner or later when you suddenly realised alot more people are actually earning more than you. [;)]
