Rodmansakura Neutral Newbie March 29, 2007 Share March 29, 2007 firstly, engine capacity do not equate 4 or 5 speed, the speed available depend on the type of gear box and no. of gears u have in it, normal manual jap car tink is 5 speed, unless u evo or wrx then 6 speed manual jap auto car like mazda 3 or altis tink is only 4 speed, again unless u PI rx8, maybe have 6 speed auto, or steptronic FYI, our humble starlet normally is 5 speed manual la, but i knw some other starlet kakis have 6 speed manual installed too 1E, engine number starts wif 1E******** 2E, engine number starts wif 2E******** but i tink normally u can tell by driving it ↡ Advertisement
Galantspeedz Turbocharged March 29, 2007 Share March 29, 2007 do not get what you mean. I tot you going to buy a new starlet, and if you are then i mean send it for inspection before you buy to certify it is the engine you want and that it is legal. Bluenuts Neutral Newbie March 29, 2007 Share March 29, 2007 Yes, it is indeed rare to find a 999cc engine in a starlet now. You won't know wat kinda engine you are looking at cos thay all look about the same to most of us, including me. I'd suggest you bring an experience mech down if you can when you go check out the car. Or you can ask the brudders here to help you, many many helpful brudders in here. Ytp2000 Clutched March 29, 2007 Share March 29, 2007 I was told that car made before 1992 are without seat belts for the rear seats. If it's so, is it possible to ask mechanic to install it? Any idea how much it cost?
Gaara Neutral Newbie March 30, 2007 Share March 30, 2007 what i meant was that the starlet i get must definitely be able to pass the inspection in 2011. wad i am afraid of is getting the car then later finding out that the car is too old or not good enough for renewal of coe. if this is the case i might as well get a new car instead of a starlet which is only going to give me 4yrs of drive. moreover all the money i splash on improving the car will be wasted. Jakku Neutral Newbie March 30, 2007 Share March 30, 2007 i second tat thought too.. my frd observed tat there are no rear selt belt in the car.. izzit a requirment to have e belts? how much do i have to pay to get those belts installed..
Starletgt Neutral Newbie March 30, 2007 Share March 30, 2007 Not required if yours is a 1991 model.
Galantspeedz Turbocharged March 30, 2007 Share March 30, 2007 1) as long as the COE is renewed for every 10yrs. then u can continue renew. 2) if you are going improve the car then y wun it not pass inspection? if it does not pass inspection then it means you did not improve it enough. you have 4yrs with the car, no one can guarantee you what you going do with it. It all depends on you. You want someone guarantee you something that you are in control and is 4yrs later? I think you better buy new car. You asking for the sky. Starletgt Neutral Newbie March 30, 2007 Share March 30, 2007 You can do that. Alt you can get the original rear seat belt system for starlet at scrap yards. They cost much cheaper.
Pteman Clutched March 30, 2007 Share March 30, 2007 Hi Jakku,U r right abt it when i got my car.No rear seat belt on the car..Already check with LTA abt it.They say is ok if manufacturer didnt come with it...but unless u r carry a child in the rear seat than better to install it..Safety comes first.. Jakku Neutral Newbie March 30, 2007 Share March 30, 2007 mmh .. i was thinking one can find out the engine cc by the road tax? dun tell me even if e car is 1.3l engine everyone is paying for 999cc roadtax? tat would be great news
Ody_2004 Turbocharged March 30, 2007 Share March 30, 2007 I believe most done a 1.3l transplant which is illegal as you are cheating on road tax. Visually very hard to tell the 1l & 1.3l apart.
Nothingtodo 1st Gear March 30, 2007 Share March 30, 2007 Galantspeedz is right. No one can guarantee wats up in 2011. If u really like the starlet, go for it, and maintain it well. I use to hv a 79' Honda Accord. When me and wifey bought it, the doors no need keys also can open one hehe... can be lock and unlock with screwdriver no alarm some more. The body starts to corrode 1.5 yrs after we brought it, but the engine damn powderful..... there was no air filter one (no more stock)... so we use sponge to act as air filter some occasion, we remove the filter altogether... can u imagine the sound intake and its power? the wipers also out of circulation in the market then... got once hv to put up with no wiper during heavy rain feel like using hand to wipe while driving while my wife help look out... and that is along Bukit Timah Rd!!!! .... the good news is... it passed inspection no soot, no extra carbon, no loud noise under normal engine ram If body did not corrode, I will get the door fix, search for the filter... Nazaki Clutched March 30, 2007 Share March 30, 2007 I was told that car made before 1992 are without seat belts for the rear seats. If it's so, is it possible to ask mechanic to install it? Any idea how much it cost? Isn't it better? Its LEGAL to sit at the back with no seatbelt if its not installed. Do u actually wear seatbelts? Unless for safety.. I see most of us dun wear it. Correct me if I'm wrong. ↡ Advertisement
