Hello everyone, will mounting of curb cause any damage to the car?

I mounted a curb a few times while trying to get out of a parking lot just now, don't know if the car will be hurt or not.

does your car veer to the side (ie. doesn't go straight) when you try to go straight? if the kern isn't too high, shouldn't be a prob. or else minor damage->alignment gone, rim scratches; major damage->axle problem, rim warped

I ever mount once, but it was very very slow, everything is alright.

In Msia i saw this proton saga mount curb like the way u go over the hump.

Both front wheel and rear wheel mount curb, and that woman driver actually tot there wasnt a curb there.

Not really, I just felt a bump and the car cannot reverse further.

It mounted while I was reversing from a front-in parking position in a corner parking lot. The speed should be quite low as I did not step on the accelerator.

If the impact was high, the most common problem is you damage your tyres, especially the sidewall. Maybe after some time, U will notice a bulge on the tyre.

depends. i've seen someone mount kerb during a right turn... and the rim was dented.... wheel hub fly onto the road.

For the rims, u will usually b able to see or feel the damage immediately. Then u decide if u want to change or not.

 

For the tyres, the damage is internal. U cannot see it till the problem becomes evident later on. That's why u sud try not to hit or mount the kerb or hit potholes. It will cause you to waste $$$ on new tyres prematurely.

 

Even pumping too high pressures will put additional stress on the tyre & may cause it to spoil faster than normal.

back wheel or front wheel?

 

In the short run, only cause alignment to go off, nothing much else. If this happen, better go for wheel alignment, otherwise tyre wares off very easily.

 

In the long run, wheel hub bearing goes konk. Veri troublesome and expensive to replace.

 

Btw, you run the curb a few times while trying to get out one parking lot? how u do that?

It's the left back wheel.

 

It was dark at night and the car beside me parked very close to me. Since I parked very close to the curb and the opposite side behind me was narrow due to some motorbikes parked there. So I had to inch out slowly and taking care not to knock the car beside and....bang! mounted curb.

Should be ok lah.. since I assume you were going rather slow, trying to get out.

 

In other countries, drivers mount curbs all the time.... like in the UK, I used to mount curbs such that I can park the car occupying half a car's width into the main road, instead of totally blocking the single lane. This is also practised in Malaysia, though not so often.

I just mount the kerb while doing a right turn.. haha..

 

I remb some time ago at MCF.. there was a discussion on a bus and a car and the car mount kerb.. ok.. today I am the car's driver.. haha

 

Once I saw the bus turning right beside me.. I immediately tot of MCF post.. i slowed down to let the bus turn.. but dunno y this bus turn quite alot into my lane.. maybe the road narrow.. so i bo bian.. I got to mount kerb.. lucky the speed very slow.. nothing happen to my car..
