if you go to the vagsg.com forum [sticky in the engine folder], i have listed the VW/Audi spec norm number and a list of brands of oils from an official VW/Audi document.

amsoil is not on the list. basically to get on the list a sample is sent to VW/Audi, its tested. then a fee is paid to VW/Audi then depending on the test result. its added to the list. whether amsoil passed the test is anybody's guess. Amsoil sure as hell aint gonna tell you and neither is the VW group.

personally i'd stick to Mobil1, tho all the maketing sites always all tell you thier own oil is better than the rest etc yadder yadder, and no way you can get a 20hp increase just by using a different engine oil or sparkies...that total rubbish, ask any seasoned pro modder/trackie)

the latest VW/Audi cars are moving towards a castrol long life factory fill. the newest audi's all have castrol insignia on the engine oil filler caps eg. the 2.0TFSI A6 etc.

regardless of what you use and personally believe in. one thing i think we can all agree on. the more often you change your oil. the happier your engine will be. my interval for a modded turbo VW/audi engine is 5000-7500km per change. silky smooth, nothing beats fresh oil. you drive a expensive ride...no point being a 'kiam ku' on oil it just does not make sense.

yes, this makes sense, amsoil has been around for a while and if they don't want to get VAG certified, then i don't see the point in using their oil...

Amsoil is great. Some of my friends including me uses the oil.

I myself uses 5w-30. Highly recommanded [thumbsup]

Where can you get this? Heard quite a bit about this German Syntec but have not seen it in the auto shops I visit so far.

hiya,

which 30 weight oil can we use for the 1.8Ts? if it says VW 502 can we use it?

I can't find Schaeffer's oil on the VAGSG list (maybe my eyesight poor), but found the Schaeffer's 7000 5W-30 has the VW 502 approval

is 30 sufficient for the 1.8Ts? i know CA uses 50 weight oil and most other oils with VW 502 are 5W-40. but looking at performance, protection and better fuel economy, the options are the 30 weight oils and besides the ever expensive Castrol Syntec 0W-30, are there any others?

and can we stick to the 15k oil change intervals if we use the thinner oils?
