Saw this posting on sgcarmart and oh mine, the offer is damn attractive. Just that the mileage is a tad high for a 4+ year car. But what the heck, you get so much more freebies that could have caused a bomb to install yourself.

Enjoy

The price is really very attractive as it has got so many goodies installed [nod][nod][nod]

Mileage IMHO still consider ok as it is around 21.5K per year [:)]

It is about par for course. A Volkswagen Bora registered one month after this Passat has 90,000kms on the clock, and costs about the same. Beware that both cars are approaching a major service interval and that hides a pretty hefty bill that isn't immediately obvious.

for a 4+ years old car, I find that the mileage is quite ok. but given that there's 3 owners already (last one maybe the dealer) you might want to ask around the VAG forum on the background of this car.

Maybe it belong to someone that look to do major project to the car and move on. Then it's going to be a good deal.

I don't know specifically for a VW, but for most cars, it is generally regarded that 100k mark is a time of big servicing bills.

[laugh][laugh] never thought of that. think the sweet deal kinda of blinded other channels of thought.

now that you mention that, better set aside few stacks of cash for the servicing. my idea of conti servicing is always [sweatdrop]

jap cars are still the most affordable to maintain, can do it at any tom, dick, harry workshop (no offence to anyone with the same name [:p] )

I think the major servicing is 60k interval (someone driving a VW can help to confirm), however, it's not really a major killer.

The killer comes from those worn out parts such as air con compressor, suspension, alternator, etc. Thus it would be good to check on those usual parts and history or servicing and warranty claims.

Depends.. If I sell my car to the dealer, the dealer got to take ownership if there's no immediate buyer. Is it the case or have industry change practise already?

Not intending to disprove you or reinforce my claim, but it costs quite a bit to replace timing belt/chains, depending on complexity of the layout...... as I said, no idea when it should be done for the VW.

In other countries, people do make an attempt to sell their car rather than face a big bill for a major service. In Singapore putting up our car for sale is dictated by other factors.

nope nope.. you are correct.. I'm the one adding on..

I understand that stuff like timing belt/chains, and all those fluids/coolant change or whatsoever is going to be many times more than the normal servicing, but this is easily solved with money which is not too costly as well..

but if it's the other parts, just trying to find the cause is going to be costly, notwithstanding the parts to change.

I do hope our exchange is not causing the sale of the passat to go out of the window [:)]

Cheers.

These VW turbos have oil stavation issue. Their engines often need ovehauling due to sludging of their oils even if synthetics r used & 5k change is adhered to. Best keep away unless u know how to fix these engines.

I have to call you bluff on that.

Show us some proof that use of synthetic oil and 5-10K OCI will still cause oil sludging.
