Russ 1st Gear April 1, 2007 Share April 1, 2007 I am among some of the forumers who get good FC no matter what car I drive. Having said that, you cannot do anything about traffic jams short of getting a Prius or something like that. Anyway it is not just keeping the RPM low, it is keeping as steady a speed as possible - minimise acceleration and braking. If you know the lights in front will still be red or just turned red, let go of the accel and coast to the lights so you brake less. Braking turns the petrol you converted into kinetic energy into heat... If you accelerate hard, you will burn lots of fuel, whatever the RPM. ↡ Advertisement
Elfenstar 3rd Gear April 1, 2007 Share April 1, 2007 I have a heavy right foot. The best fuel saving method i've found is to find a granny driver and follow behind her (at a safe distance of course). And it works a treat
Vit4wd 1st Gear April 1, 2007 Share April 1, 2007 Check yout tyre pressure, and pump it up to 220 KPa on a cold tyre
Friendstar Supercharged April 1, 2007 Share April 1, 2007 I'm driving a picnic and honestly FC varies greatly. however, like wat the bros mentioned: 1) tyres 220kpa 2) regular servicing 3) Prediction of traffic light === very important 4) Granny mindset 5) steady speed 6) Technology ---- the power of VVT-i, i-DSL 7) air-con (when u'r 1km away from home or destination, can off air con and the cold air will certainly stay till u reach. Teckheng Neutral Newbie April 1, 2007 Share April 1, 2007 turn off air-con it's a-bit too much isn't it ? why not off engine, go N gear and roll down the slope ? Anyway, Check your car boot see if you load 7 pairs of umbrellas 4 pairs of shoes and dump those free gifts from petrol station. Or did you visit the detailing, MadDriver, recently and increase your car boot detailing product ?
Jermy Clutched April 1, 2007 Share April 1, 2007 i regularly switch off my air con too. Esp in the morning (8+) when i drive to work, & sometimes at night when cruising along expressways. Of course i wind down the windows alittle to let some air in. The ambience temperature in my car is usually quite ok during these situations.. Pallmall Neutral Newbie April 1, 2007 Share April 1, 2007 i realised that the fuel consumption for my car is getting higher...could it be the way i drive it? or? can anyone advise me on the ways to drive the car to save fuel? and what we should do. My experiences tell me that the following contributes to FC: Balancing and alignment of tires. Petrol brand and grade > Shell gives the best mileage and higher ron goves comparatively better FC due to the extra additives and etc. However, Shell runs hot and 'rough' when compared to other brands. Also boh 'power' one. Avoiding jams and proper plannng of route. Highways and less start/stops give better FC. This is the most signicicant factor. Driving style > Avoid high revs. I once achieve 16km/l by keeping to below 2200 rpm but caused lots of nuisance to fellow road users. Maintaince > A recent oil change always ups my FC. I have found that Schaeffers gives me the best FC when compared to other oils. Sicne its cheap, I just change them more often (ard 7500km). Use w20 oils if your engine supports it. Jchuacl Clutched April 1, 2007 Share April 1, 2007 You probably may want to ask yourself the following questions to ensure that you match the correct cause and effect analysis of the problem. What exactly is wrong with your fuel consumption Where does the problem lie? With the car or with you? When did problem start? Was the increase in FC gradual or abrupt? Did you observe the increase in FC with only the driver or with passengers? Many people give you probabilities but did not address your issue. i realised that the fuel consumption for my car is getting higher...could it be the way i drive it? or? can anyone advise me on the ways to drive the car to save fuel? and what we should do. ↡ Advertisement
