Andrewkb Neutral Newbie April 28, 2003 Share April 28, 2003 (edited) Hi to all, Was reading about this mod where one can increase the size of the throttlebody to get more air into the engine so as to produce more power. E.g. DC5 TB increase from 60mm to 62mm by simply bored out ... Spoon TB just simply expand the connecting pipe (where the plastic attached), so the TB is still 60mm, but the intake is tapered ... thus producing extra 6hp !!! Does it really help by that few mm ? Saaber Neutral Newbie April 28, 2003 Share April 28, 2003 If done properly, it does increase hp....

Andrewkb Neutral Newbie April 28, 2003 Author Share April 28, 2003 No lah ... wanted to do a Throttlebody Coolant bypass mod ... Third time removed and wanted to do it, but my hand too big lah ... there's one part that is not accessible. So it's easier to use a connector to connect the 2 hoses instead. But dunno internal diameter, so tough to find a connector too. While at that, itchy with the TB bore job :-P
Hkfung Neutral Newbie April 28, 2003 Share April 28, 2003 the air/fuel ratio may be lean out by the extra air during combustion...this will definately releases some horses the ecu will "adjust" over time. another easier way is to use "power-jet". basically is the same concept, provide more air during combustion. "power-jet" provides another source of air at the vacuum hose level, meaning its after the TB butterfly, same throttle, more air from power-jet and it cost oni ~
Super4 Clutched April 28, 2003 Share April 28, 2003 DEFINITELY!!!!
Andrewkb Neutral Newbie April 28, 2003 Author Share April 28, 2003 Hmm, now it starts to make sense why Powerjet works. BUT is powerjet installed after the TB butterfly ? If yes, 1) idle might be affected 2) there seems to be no space after the TB for vacuum leh
Hkfung Neutral Newbie April 28, 2003 Share April 28, 2003 after the TB, there should be couple vacuum hoses and just use one of them should be alrite. maybe diff from car model. once any air ratio is "increased", the ecu suppose to re-adjust the air/fuel ratio, be it increased TB size, power-jet,etc. for the actual design, pls refer http://www.powerjetusa.com/english/english.htm

Presea2000 Neutral Newbie April 28, 2003 Share April 28, 2003 Be careful with sure modification, real experience is it does not give very obvious improvement after modification, rather spend the $$ on other items. But if you still wants to go ahead, make sure the throttle are fixed back properly. One of my friend's car also did the same mod, but the workshop did not do a good job, guess what, he needs to pay $600++ to replace a new throttle b'cos previous one up-the-bus (sorry not convenient to mentioned the name of the workshop)

Modeldriver Neutral Newbie April 28, 2003 Share April 28, 2003 anybody put into their cars ? What make/model/year and what's the effect ?? Wouldn't potentially an exhaust job (legal one that is) give more HP rather than tinkering with trottle body ? Personally have had trottle jammed open before, scary thought.
