Viperphoenix Neutral Newbie May 17, 2007 Share May 17, 2007 (edited) Did my second service at Exklusiv for 15000 on Monday, 14th May. To save, as advised, i brought my own engine oil. For the lack of preparation, I went to Esso at Bukit Timah. It was either Mobile 1 4L 0w40 @ $126 or 5w50 @ $102. I asked Jaffar and he said w50. Went to Exklusiv center at No. 7 Ubi Close. The service center is located at basement. I arrived at 1345hrs. Jaffar took the car. I waited at the lounge area. Past the time reading papers and mags. The lcd tv was showing discovery channel which was frequently interrupted by the roar and vibration of overhead planes. There was self-service coffee and tea. I didnt see any other drivers. The car was ready by 1620hrs. Jaffar said that they usually use the silver w50 rather than the gold w40. I forgot to ask why. Shoot! I told him that I was surprised that the car used 4L considering that I had drove jap coe cars previously and never took notice. He told me that the Octavia used 4.5L. Sheesh! The bill came to about $117. So total I spent $219. Actual cost would be about $230. With better preparation Im sure I could get the oil cheaper elsewhere as confirmed by Koolaba. The next stop would be 30000. The price would be about $330. More work done like brake oil, air-con etc. Koolaba says that w50 makes the car sluggish. So far I dont feel so. Its too smooth like the valve was always open. Maybe its just cleaner engine. Lately, I learnt how to switch between the auto and manual to overtake and it is becoming a habit. My cousin asked me once; "How the hell u do that?". I just said, its equipped with batmobile booster. Question, if the car is stopped and in D, does it burn petrol? Elfenstar 3rd Gear May 17, 2007 Share May 17, 2007 as long as the engine is running you're burning petrol.....
Djcoolmax 2nd Gear May 18, 2007 Share May 18, 2007 Thanks for sharing. The price you paid for the engine oil is expensive. Indeed if you got it from Trex101, it would be much cheaper. Other than changing of engine oil and filter, what else was done? $117 just to do those things is expensive. Oh.. and to answer your question, the moment you start your engine, you are burning petrol.....
Koolaba 1st Gear May 18, 2007 Share May 18, 2007 Mobil 1 Gold costs more than Mobil 1 Silver. It promotes cost savings for CA/CnC if it uses the cheaper VW compliant oil for oil change. Here is a stockist which is worth checking out before you purchase the next bottle of engine oil. It stocks Mobil 1 products. However the price will be cheaper than those at the petrol kiosks. Forklift Parts Enterprise 15 Teck Chye Ter Singapore 545723 Tel : 6286 7260 From the instantaneous FC meter on your ride, it is easy to tell when the engine is consuming petrol. Unless it reads "0.0l/100km" on the move or "0.0l/h" at stationary, petrol is consumed. It is not adviseable to alternate between "N" and "D" at short stops. This will induce higher wear to the torque converter.

Viperphoenix Neutral Newbie May 18, 2007 Author Share May 18, 2007 Thanks Koolaba for the input. I usually switch to N to use the momentum of the car to go down slope or reaching an exit etc. i suppose i should use it sporadically.

Koolaba 1st Gear May 18, 2007 Share May 18, 2007 Please refrain from coasting in neutral gear. This is one sure way of damaging the automatic transmission prematurely. Besides, you may not be able to engage the gear to 'D' in time if the situation calls for it. If I recall correctly, the owner's manual did advise against coasting in neutral. I doubt this will help in improving the FC of the car. Once the torque convertor is locked in 'D', the momentum of the car will keep the car going without consuming fuel. If you switch the on-board computer to read the instantaneous fuel consumption, you will read "0.0l/100km". You can do a simple experiment with a manual vehicle (not with an automatic) which allows the instantaneous fuel consumption to be read (e.g. Skoda Octavia (certain batches), Fiat Doblo 1.3 Multijet or 1.9 JTD). 1. Accelerate until cruising speeds of between 60km/h to 90km/h 2a. Release the accelerator with the gear still engaged. The instantaneous FC meter should indicate that no fuel is consumed. 2b. Shift the gear to neutral and let the car coast. The instantaneous FC meter will register a reading which indicates that petrol is consumed. Dent removal services. Rockbed828 Neutral Newbie May 25, 2007 Share May 25, 2007 Hi , May I know whether is it necessary to do the first servicing ? I have not done mine at 5000km as the advisor says no need. Please advise. My car is A4 Octavia , current mileage = 7000km. Thanks to all.
Try_conti 2nd Gear May 26, 2007 Share May 26, 2007 advisor as in Jaafar ? Actually, they don't do much. Just take some readings from your ECU, that's all. Maybe reset your ECU if you request it for whatever reasons. Nothing is added or changed. My advise is to go outside & at least do an oil & filter change. Take a look at your engine oil. If it still has a nice colour to it, forget it. If it turns out all black already, get it changed ASAP. Any VAG approved/rated synthetic oil would be able to last you till 15k. I did mine with that 'cheap' oil from C4 @ 5k. Seems good enuf. Current mileage 10k & its already starting to turn a bit brown ..... ↡ Advertisement
