Portable Tire Pump

Hi guys,

 

Just wondering if anyone got a portable air compressor to recommend.

 

My requirements are 2-fold.

 

1st. I intend to use it to keep my tires properly inflated instead of going to the petrol station all the time - it's about 5km away, in which time the tire heats up, and also i become too "lazy" to bother as it's out of the way.

 

2nd. My emergency pump in case i get a flat. I can use it to fill up the tire with enough air to reach a tire shop or mechanic. This too me leaves me with a choice in case changing the tire right there and then is not possible - eg on the NS highway at night.

 

Given this is my requirement, the compressor needs to be :

1. Able to pump up to 250 kpa/psi (sorry can't remember which is which)

2. Needs to be reasonably accurate (otherwise no point)

3. Preferably operate by the ciggy lighter

4. Small and portable.

 

I spotted one at DIY shop that claims to pump to 250 psi/kpa, and has a emergency torce on it as well. But it's about the size of 2 phone directories (hence big) and doesn't seem very well made. I tend to doubt that i can pump to 250psi. Anyone have experience with this?

 

Anyone got alternative pumps to recommend? I don't mind the footpump either, but i was told that i won't get 250psi/kpa from a foot pump, not sure true or not.

footpump can get 250 kpa. but u want tt much exercise? bicycle pump lagi best!

 

i think those portable pumps are good for emergency, but dun seem to be sturdy enuff for regular usage. i have one, and after some use, it starts rattling. they are such tiny machines

Saw it in person. Bout the size of a big hard cover book - 2kg plus minus. Seems very well built. Plus this has a sealent for emergencies. Each time u top up the sealent it's about 45 bucks - not cheap, but might save u when in a pinch.

The Avanti guys said that they can remove it once they permanently patch the tire - so no permanent mess to the tire.

i got one of the mini air compressor from Au*oB*c @ abt $40plus

not bad......save the trouble to pump air at petrol station.

i thought the idea is to seal permanently - no need for a patch in the traditional sense - or am i wrong ?

Nope. Only temp seal - for upto 300km. Till u get to a mech. Similar for the donut, u wouldn't want to drive too long with it on.
