Echelon 3rd Gear June 29, 2007 Share June 29, 2007 Hi, Wanted to ask, I know seems silly but what is the correct driving posture? 1. Sit up with lower lumber to the seat and body straighten with arms at a 45 degree angle while holding the steering wheel? 2. Sit back to the seat and head resting on the head rest with arms slightly straighten while holding the steering wheel? I find #2 most comfortable, but not good when driving but fear that it cuts down on reaction time. Wonder what the bros here recommend? ↡ Advertisement

Virus 2nd Gear July 1, 2007 Share July 1, 2007 (edited) #1 is correct, #2 will NOT be comfortable for long hour. And yes, it's unsafe to drive in is posture as your reaction time is affected. Correct me if wrong, what I understand is the headrest is not mean for resting head, it serve as head restraint when you're hit from the back, or when you momentumly fall back after hitting infront. Yc86 Clutched July 1, 2007 Share July 1, 2007 I believe the correct way would be to adjust your seat so that your knees are still slightly bent after fully clutching in or fully braking. Then adjust the back rest until your wrists are able to touch the top of the steering with your back agains the rest.
Nets Neutral Newbie July 1, 2007 Share July 1, 2007 From AsiaOne Motoring How far away should one sit? The proper distance would be to have the knee slightly bent when the clutch pedal is pushed to the floor. If the car is one with an automatic transmission, then use an imaginary clutch pedal. Seated this way, it allows for the driver to apply the brakes quickly with the right foot and push the pedal right down. Sit as high as you can, as it provides a panoramic view out and a better view of the instruments. Note: There should be enough room between the ceiling of the car and the driver
Echelon 3rd Gear July 2, 2007 Author Share July 2, 2007 Thanks for all the advise, I was looking at how some people drive when they slouch totally to the back like driving a sports car in a Vios before and I wondered how comfortable that would be, I tried it and regretted it. It is relaxing when you can lean back into the seat with your head resting on the head rest, but find that I do not really enjoy that on Singapore roads as we tend to drive more defensively. Thanks again. ↡ Advertisement
