Xin63 Neutral Newbie August 9, 2007 Share August 9, 2007 Apolygies if this thread and its queries sounds too simple ...cos I know nuts about cars and such. Recently changed my vehicle's tyres to Michelin PP2. After a few days, realised that the comfort level is below par. The ride is always very hard and bumpy. So went back to the workshop to have a checkup. The boss was out for lunch and the worker checked the tyre pressures, which was 33 psi and he told me that its correct. When the boss returns, he check the tyre's specs and said that it should be 29 psi and went on to reduce the pressure to 29 psi. Afterwhich, I took the vehicle for a test drive and the comfort level did improves. Yesterday, I read from the Michelin handbook that a hot tyre should be measured 4psi higher than the recommended pressures...meaning 29 + 4 = 33 psi. So here's the questions:- 1). Does that means that the worker was right and the boss makes a mistake? 2). What will happens if I continues to drive with the lower psi pressures? 3). If I reset the hot tyre pressures to 29+4 psi and endure the discomfort, does that means that the PP2 is no good in the comfort level? Got the PP2 for its low noise level and its good in that but am not sure about the comfort level. Please advise. Thank You. ↡ Advertisement
Icetrap 2nd Gear August 10, 2007 Share August 10, 2007 Try to measure when your tyres are cold. You can get those Tyre measuring Equipment at any store like Stamford tyres or Autobacs, in fact at any big Tyre shops Pumping slightly more air(over inflated tyres) may cause the comfort Level to go down. The car will be too bouncy. Pumping less air into the tyres may cause inproper wear and tear on the tyre.
Robertoon Neutral Newbie August 10, 2007 Share August 10, 2007 is your Michelin made in Thailand. If so, its nature of the tyre is bumpy.
Eyke Supercharged August 10, 2007 Share August 10, 2007 check your car manual to find out the recommended pressure for your tyre's size/profile.
Xin63 Neutral Newbie August 10, 2007 Author Share August 10, 2007 (edited) How do I check if its made in Thailand? How many countries is the PP2 being made? Thanks. Edited August 10, 2007 by Xin63
Xin63 Neutral Newbie August 10, 2007 Author Share August 10, 2007 The recommended tyre size is 215/65-R16 at 29 psi. The nearest size for my vehicle to use the Michelin PP2 is 215/60-R16. Do I still use the recommended pressures for this size? Thanks.
Xin63 Neutral Newbie August 10, 2007 Author Share August 10, 2007 How much is the cost of a tyre pressure gauge? Will under inflated tyres cause the damage to the vehicle (besides damaging the tyres)? Is there any safety issue for under inflated tyres such as braking and driving in different road conditions? Thanks.

It states the required profile and size of the tyres suitable for your ride. Follow that and you won't be wrong. This may be a contributory factor to the fuel consumption of your car.
