I experienced similar prob as u.recently one of my tyre tend to "leak" air pretty faster than others.Could it be that tyre has leak/hole? I just patched that tyre recently, is it better to change new tyre or patch back again?

sometimes it's the valve that's leaking air...any decent tire shop can help you check...

Mine is a new set of tyres and its less than a month old.

I think some tyres are not made for comfort, perhaps performance tyres are more bumpy?

Apolygies if this thread and its queries sounds too simple ...cos I know nuts about cars and such.

 

Recently changed my vehicle's tyres to Michelin PP2.

 

After a few days, realised that the comfort level is below par. The ride is always very hard and bumpy. So went back to the workshop to have a checkup. The boss was out for lunch and the worker checked the tyre pressures, which was 33 psi and he told me that its correct.

 

When the boss returns, he check the tyre's specs and said that it should be 29 psi and went on to reduce the pressure to 29 psi. Afterwhich, I took the vehicle for a test drive and the comfort level did improves.

 

Yesterday, I read from the Michelin handbook that a hot tyre should be measured 4psi higher than the recommended pressures...meaning 29 + 4 = 33 psi.

 

So here's the questions:-

1). Does that means that the worker was right and the boss makes a mistake?

2). What will happens if I continues to drive with the lower psi pressures?

3). If I reset the hot tyre pressures to 29+4 psi and endure the discomfort, does that means that the PP2 is no good in the comfort level?

 

Got the PP2 for its low noise level and its good in that but am not sure about the comfort level. Please advise.

So how, still noisy? Btw what tyres were you on? Do you find the PP2 tyres better performance than your old tyres?

 

Performance tyres usually have a harsher ride.

Nismobabe, how fast is the tire leaking air? One of my tire was also leaking. Takes about 3 to 4 days to notice an obvious deflation in the tire compared to the other 3 tires and i have to pump it. Did tire rotation recently and found out there are 2 long nails in the tire. Got them pulled out and patched the hole.

 

If your leaking is even faster than my case, your tire could have kanna many nails Did you drive over sandy and rocky terrains recently, like near construction site? Chances of kanna-ing the nails is higher man...

 

I asked the tire-man and he said a tire can patch a lot of times. No problem.

depends on where the nail is.

 

if it's the side wall, then got to change. cannot patch.

 

Generally, a rule of thumb is 2 patch.. I'm sure you don't want a blow out when you are going at 80km/h

i patch mine too..quite big hole but it has lasted more than 1/2 year

In my case, the leaking went on for as long as 4 to 5 months, i procrastinated so never send for checking. But visual inspection shows nothing.. probably because it is not easy to see the nails unless u take out the whole wheel, rotate it one round and see...

 

If it is the sidewall kanna nails, i would hav seen it rightaway... In what circumstances will the side wall kanna nails?

but I agar agar guess 2 situation.

 

1) tyres flex, so it kena during turn.. moreover, a curve is usually the place where such debris will be deposited rather than straight road.

 

2) long nail that went thru and kena the side.

 

actually any weak point beside those in contact with the road is deem unsafe and at times, they are not recommended for patching.

 

Anyway, that's my own opinion. Others might have other suggestion and opinion.

 

to add on, if you want to patch, do the internal type, not injection type.

it's not everyday that we have blow out.. so if you are a gentle driver, shd be ok to a certain extent.
