yes as in piaggio makes vans.

wow, if thats the case the first i heard of scooter company making van.

wonders whats the point of an italian van that looks so ugly. can t be cheaper than the japs right. spares should cost more as well.

a company with no track record in automobiles making van sounds really weird to me.

its the first i have ever seen on the road.

(edited)

this peaked my curiosity enough to do a search on the web.

this is really interesting and quite off from what most would think.

the hijet was based on the piaggio porter

piaggio manufactures the hijet for daihatsu so they most probably shared the same parts bin.

and there's this. as the porter sales did not really take off but as the hijet..... nuff said.

so the italians can replicate jap reliability and fc if they want to.

quote from yahoo reviews

The Porter has been around for a good few years and for much of its life it existed in the modest shadow of the Daihatsu Hijet. The Hijet was a rebadged version of the Porter built by Piaggio themselves in Italy and it always enjoyed a higher profile than the model it shared a production line with. Part of the reason for this was the Porters UK distribution through the Reliant dealer network with its limited capacity and three-wheeler connotations, while the Hijet was sold directly through the more respectable face of Daihatsu franchised showrooms. This microvan status quo shifted when Daihatsu took the interesting step of replacing the Hijet with the Extol - a more modern microvan with styling that can best be described as challenging.

duh i answered my own question.
