SOHC = Single Overhead Cam

DOHC = Double Overhead Cam

SOHC = 2 valves (1 intake and 1 exhaust)

DOHC = 4 valves (2 intake and 2 exhaust)

Hope I'm correct also [sweatdrop]

I did a search and understand the different valves involved.

Does SOHC and DOHC valves both opens up at 5000rpm once which is different

from the VTEC SiR model?

VTEC and SOHC/DOHC are totally unrelated concepts.

VTEC = opening more of the valve via lift so the engine can breathe better (sorta like the human nose)

SOHC/DOHC = number of cams and valves

More valves = Engine breathes better cos more openings

VTEC is controlled by the cam design.

Blame Honda marketting.

There are so many versions of VTEC that it confuses everybody. The different versions of VTEC are common in name only. They are very different engines with very different working principles. Some are brilliant, some are not so fantastic. But since they are all badged as VTEC.... [laugh][laugh][laugh]

very simple lar

SOHC = One leg hopping

DOHC = two leg running

so which faster?

when running very fast, 2 legs faster

but when hopping, one leg faster cos, 2 legs are heavier

when sitting down, no diff laugh.giflaugh.giflaugh.gif

92vti b16a2 is about the same as the 96sir b16a4, just that the b16a4 got about 10 more bhp.

both vtec open once.

if u say vtec open twice, should be the b18c (integra dc2)

as the manufacture tech improving, SOHC will takeover back DOHC in small cc engine [:p]

honda civic is a good example [thumbsup]

SOHC and DOHC already being discussed,go and do a search.

If between both on Honda engine,you might wanna highlight,what type of engine code do you refer too.

There are differences cos type of cams Honda use.
