Qpik Supercharged October 21, 2007 Share October 21, 2007 Was having a friendly discussion and this topic came up. With more manufacturers shifting their plant to Thailand and at the same time, their suppliers have been squeezed to maximise their profit margin. Naturally the parts/workmanship/finishing cannot be compared to a JDM. But, the selling price is not necessary cheaper than a Japan or Korea made car. Then does it make sense to buy Toyota/Honda (no offense to these group of owners) just because previously their cars have been proven to be more fuel economical and reliable. For other brands have overtaken them. Will we see the following scenarios happening in S'pore:- 1)Thai-made Jap car either bringing up their quality up to those JDM 2)Thai-made Jap SP will be lowered tremendously to make it even more attractive 3)Korean car overtake as the top selling car 4)Pple turning to PI to bring in JDM car 5)AD to bring in JDM common car ↡ Advertisement
Alpha78 6th Gear October 21, 2007 Share October 21, 2007 1) Possible, if the Japs insist on enforcing the high standards. Then again, Jap standards have been dropping too. 2) Tan Ku Ku lor, why lower the price when they can make better profits? 3) Possible, Hyundai cars are almost on par with Jap ones. In the LCD TV arena, Koreans have already overtaken the Japs. 4) Already happening right? 5) Impossible, AD are bound by the manufacturer's rules, which is to push MIT models to Asia. Qpik Supercharged October 21, 2007 Author Share October 21, 2007 (edited) 1)Yes, Jap standards hv dropped even those JDM but if u like a Jap brand, wld u go for JDM over MIT? 2)AD offering 5yr warranty for MIT models? In Thailand, some brand are offering 5yrs warranty. 3)More choice & improved in finishings/fuel efficiency/reliability yet cheaper than JDM? 4)PI able to offer same stuff as AD? 5)AD bringing in CNG model? Qpik Supercharged October 21, 2007 Author Share October 21, 2007 If based on yr statement, we will see 1) cheap car replaced as top seller cos we hv more n more poor pple 2) rich pple buy more cars not just expensive ones 3) poor pple who r heavily in debts will find ways to maximise their car (renting out their car??) 4) super rich who buy luxurious cars will prob straddle two lanes/parking lot cos they pay more road tax? 5) poor pple who justify by saying their car comparable to lambo/porsche/ferrari? or worse, their car is the fastest 1.6 on the road or complaining in MCF that pple want to jio them ↡ Advertisement
