Servicing woes...

i choose not to service my car at the AD because they refuse to allow me to BYO oil.

 

today i went to a workshop with my own supplied air filter, oil filter, engine oil and gear oil to replace my engine oil, gear oil and air filter. I was charged $50 for the labour. is it reasonable?

 

is there a good workshop around that stocks genuine kia parts and uses high quality grp 4 and above engine oil in their servicing packages?

$50 for labour alone is actually v steep.

 

usually its about halve that price if u bring everything urself.

care to share your workshop location? do they perform the multi-point checks too?

do a search, sud b able to find workshop tat does for u ard $20.

 

the mech not familar to u or recommend by ur friend

just my thoughts, usually if you bring all your own things, the workshop cannot earn from selling you things like spark plug, oil and air filter, and (most of all) engine oil, so they might charge a bit more

 

my experience is that when you mention "i bring my own oil, or etc etc" their face colour will change

 

everyone also making a living, usually i let workshop take care everything, cost of fully synthetic castrol servicing is about $120, change plugs and air/oil filter, routine checks

My old fashioned ws charges me about $20 only but my car is a COE car & very straight-forward.

 

Does your car need any special tools or equip/knowledge to change the mentioned items?

 

If not, then just go to a good & reliable ws & maybe pay abt $20 only.

 

All those 50 point etc checks r BS. Just check or change the items mentioned in your handbook is good enough. I found out many ws don't even do the checks on all the items mentioned & remember if they top-up or change anything, they wil charge u extra.

Then they r not transparent on what they r charging u for. Best thing is maybe u pay for 100% synthetic oil & they give u mineral oil or a mixture of both.

 

What if they run out of stock for your spark plugs or oil filter? They prob substitute another type for another car, if it can fit.

 

That's why in any biz, the shop always like pple with little or no knowledge so it's so much easier to cheat them. Especially when the customer wil "let the workshop take care of everything".
