Madsumm 1st Gear February 19, 2008 Share February 19, 2008 Actually.. doesn't matter wat cam u use.. Its the photographer, not the camera that takes the pic. Also, get a DSLR.. its worth it. D3, D300, Canon 30D..etc.. all ok. But once u go on one.. stick to one. For courses, u can try KnowledgeBowl as well. I'm a Nikon user. I always advice friends who just started out not to spend too much until you confirm you like this hobby after 1 year. ke ke ke... most people 3 minute warmth... after that the camera collecting dust. Thinking of changing to a better camera with more zoom and able to take pics at night. Need to have own camera for taking the course rt ? Can recommend me one gd camera ? FZ18 gd ?mmm thanks ! AH! Unfortunately, the lumix series is not particularly well received for low light photography. Extremely high noise level. I used to have a Lumix LX-2 but the noise just put me off. Any thing above ISO 100 is crap. But for night photography, you need fast lens if you want to shoot hand held. Otherwise if you mount it on a tripod, most camera should be able to give quite decent quality. For PNS cameras, I will go for Canon or Olympus. I'm not quite a FujiFilm man as they have some issues with their CCD sensors and resolution is always interpreted as interpolated, not effective pixels. But you can get your hands on a decent 2nd hand DSLRs these days at about the price of a PNS. And also, PNS has got their limitations. Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

Important to under the fundamentals first - aperture, shutter speed, ISO etc. and how these parameters affect the final picture. :) Anyway, just happened to receive this email. Missed out the link last night: http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/fujifilmf50fd/ Even though the characteristics of the photo based on FujiFilm trademarked Super CCD may not go down well with everyone, they do appear to still have the best low light performance. What's the indicative prices for these two models? think the D300 body alone is abt 2-3k D3 think is >$5k or go ebay buy 2nd hand D100, D200 or D80. and get a good good lens (those constant F2.8 ones). Madsumm 1st Gear February 20, 2008 Share February 20, 2008 (edited) 10x zoom!!! u kidding. most compacts or prosumer series cams doesn't support that optically. so if u looking at nikon.. p5100 series u r looking at? btw.. there is a mark quality difference using DSLR even if DSLR has much lesser resolutions then that of a PnS cam. (now PnS has like 10megapix) Simply because, the sensor size is much much larger and so is the lens. More light, more accurate details. Only let down is.. weight and size i guess. But to need gd pics esp at night can recommend me one ? www.dpreview.com Nothing comes close. It has in-depth reviews of D-SLR as well as PnS. The forums are very informative and friendly. Now which D-SLR... this is the tough question. A simple answer would be Canon... they give nice clean pictures at night because their noise reduction algorithm is fantastic (much better than the rest)... many also think its too aggressive. The biggest decision you need to make is which system do you prefer. Canon OR Nikon OR Olympus OR (Others). Every system has their strengths and weaknesses. Once you choose the system it is very difficult to move out because of the investments that you have already made. Don't look at the camera body to decide what you want to buy. Look at the lenses. What lenses can you afford? Do you need to buy 2 or 3 lenses to complete the zoom range? Buy the most expensive lens you can afford (even if you have to buy a cheaper camera body) because lenses last long time... the camera body gets outdated every 3-4 years, and you will want to buy a better camera body 3-4 years down the road. I use Olympus E-1 with 14-54mm/50-200mm f2.8-3.5 because it gives me 28-400mm effective zoom range in 2 lenses, which is great for traveling. I also have 50mm f2.0 macro.
