Dumb 4th Gear March 25, 2008 Share March 25, 2008 [inline Renovation.jpg] Will a 3 ft fish tank with stand and all, including a 2 feet fish tank on the bottom shelf weight more than 150 kg? What can happen if a person or two stand within that square meter of floor space with the fish tanks. ↡ Advertisement
Porker Turbocharged March 25, 2008 Share March 25, 2008 3ft by 2ft by 2ft tank holds 0.324 cubic metres of water. 1 cubic metre of water weighs 1 ton so the weight is 324kg. Just do it because the entire floor loading is more than sufficient to hold the weight. Its only the local area that experience more bending. I did a tank that weighs slightly more than 1 ton with water and everything thrown in and my building did not collapse
Ultramega 1st Gear March 25, 2008 Share March 25, 2008 150kg per square metre.... this means if the floor stab is 10 square metres, the total load it can take is 10 x 150kg = 1.5tons. so as long as the total load on the floor stab does not exceed the total limit, should be fine i guess. but don't take my word for it. suggest you write HDB an email to confirm. Nolicense Turbocharged March 25, 2008 Share March 25, 2008 those who study engineering will know what this cantilever thing is.. the load will cause stress to the beam.. the stress is higher the further the load is from the fixed point. for easy guide, ultramega is right. Wouldn't that weight on one spot less than 1 sq metre stress or weaken the surronding floor area of my balcony?
