Mitch Neutral Newbie May 22, 2002 Share May 22, 2002 Feel like trying out DIY the fuel filter replacement? Anyone can provide basic steps and checklist or "do-not-try" please? ↡ Advertisement
Pauly75ts Neutral Newbie May 22, 2002 Share May 22, 2002 Hi! there, Mitch, Carry spare hose clamps. Make sure you are not directly under the fuel filter when you remove it. Better yet, put a basin below to catch the fuel leak. Smoking lights out during the whole operation, including torchlight. Rgds Paul Yong

Pauly75ts Neutral Newbie May 23, 2002 Share May 23, 2002 Hi! there, Mitch, On my car, the fuel filter is below the rear-right passenger after the 2nd fuel pump. It looks like a smoke grenade, I'd remove the hose-clamp that's furtherest from the fuel pump. Drain the fuel, then release the other hose clamp. Remove the filter, check the hose-clamps, replace if worn. Re-install filter. A simple job. If you don't fit it the wrong way. Rgds Paul Yong

Turbobrick Neutral Newbie May 23, 2002 Share May 23, 2002 Just curious... how do i know whether do i need to replace of change my fuel filter? Tough to be sure when to change, like the oil filter it's better to have a fixed interval to change. Ard 50k is reasonable, my brick's one is recommended at 105k!!! Mitch Neutral Newbie May 24, 2002 Author Share May 24, 2002 Is there such a thing as a fuel filter cleaner so we don't really need to replace it, but actually extending the filter lifespan for a couple more kilos'? STP cleaners good or not (black, red, silver coloured bottle)?
Guyver 1st Gear May 24, 2002 Share May 24, 2002 Ya.. i'm really curious whether those STP fuel injector cleaner really works? can anyone comment??

STP cleaners good or not (black, red, silver coloured bottle)? I wouldn't rely of such fuel system cleaners to "clean" the fuel filter.....think about this: The fuel filter has paper element that traps the dirt particles. If a cleaner actually can clean the filter element means what? The dirt passes through the filter and end up in the injectors? The purpose of having a filter is to trap dirt and be disposed when time is due.

Lester Neutral Newbie May 25, 2002 Share May 25, 2002 For fuel filters, change when mileage due or you think it's time to change or you just too much money dunno where to spend. For STP, I've used it for yrs, so far I've no complains. It does make an old engine feel cleaner after a tank mixed with STP product. Subsequent tanks can feel the differences. Imagine on a newer vehicle, guess it just keeps the engine clean. Doesn't dissolve dirt in filter. But cleans your fuel system of things like gum, laquer, anything sticky from gasoline or unburnt engine oil if there's any leak. All along I use the silver bottle at S$22.95 or about there. Anybody see better pricings? Lester I love my Santa Fe
Yongwd 1st Gear May 25, 2002 Share May 25, 2002 extra $ I save up for another car few yrs down the road. I change my fuel filter as i know my car suffocate at full throttle, after replacement the problem went away. i was suggesting Guyver to replace his fuel filter before adding STP. Mitch Neutral Newbie May 25, 2002 Author Share May 25, 2002 Thanks for the explanation. I always thought STP cleaners can dissolve these gum and particles.
Turbobrick Neutral Newbie May 25, 2002 Share May 25, 2002 Key function of the STP cleaner is to clean out the valves and injector outlets and all the crap gets burned in the combustion process. If the engine is in the pink of health adding a bottle every 5k is for preventive maintenance only, won't see or feel much but if U do see extra crap get burnt out through the exhaust means the engine has been neglected
