Jeff89 Neutral Newbie June 1, 2008 Share June 1, 2008 i drove a rented SFD getz 1.3A before, 1st time i drove it, extreme light footed.. but the FC sux.. only abt 9.5 to 10km/l only.. but the second time i drove the car again.. i become more heavy footed and guess wat.. FC became 12.5 to 13km/l.. i think is due to driving style ba.. getting to higher gear faster will help to save petrol.. moderate acceleration not too slow should be ok.. Passion 5th Gear June 1, 2008 Share June 1, 2008 what's your travelling speed?Getz is not a "zua" car.Slow and steady acceleration is the way to go.Also, ask mech to check your engine condition.New car tends to have better FC,but ageing car shouldn't drop so much.Dirty throttle body do contribute to worse FC.Observe for few tank.If constant, probably is your fuel tank leak. Changing to a thinner engine oil helps a lot. Use maybe 10W30. Previously i am on 5W50 and it sucks big time, my right foot how light also no use, still bad FC and in return i got the "You blardy road hogger" stares from other drivers. Albeniz Turbocharged June 1, 2008 Share June 1, 2008 Talking about FC. The FC of my presea 1.6M used to be 9.5km/L when I pumped Esso/SPC RON92 or 95. After using Shell Vpower over the last 3 tanks, I observed that the FC started to reach 11.2km/L, 11.8km/L and then 12km/L (most recent). I think it is the effect from the cleaning agents added in Vpower. I am wondering if I could still maintain such FC by adding Redex/Redline/STP fuel system cleaner, but reverting back to RON92. Has anyone tried this?

Albeniz Turbocharged June 1, 2008 Share June 1, 2008 5W50? Why did you use such thick engine oil? How old is your engine? What is the FC improvement you got after changing it to 10W30? Any side-effects?

Vroomtattat 2nd Gear June 1, 2008 Share June 1, 2008 (edited) Brudder Albeniz, I'm getting about 10 to 11 km/l. Light footed and keeping to max 2500 rpm. Everything I can to improve FC in these difficult times. Yup, Sunny auto. Edited June 1, 2008 by Vroomtattat

Kb27 Supersonic June 1, 2008 Share June 1, 2008 (edited) My getz was doing around 13km/l, then at one stage it starts to go down to 11~12km/l. I started using Redline and it went back up to 13km/l. I was kind of surprised as I did not bother about fc, but more for the cleaner. I've never used vpower in Sg, except in MY where the price is no comparison. Here I only used 92 and 95. Albeniz Turbocharged June 1, 2008 Share June 1, 2008 (edited) Yours is 13km/L. What is your engine size, 1.3A? For my case, after my current tank of Vpower finishes, I will go back to RON92 and see if the FC could still be maintained. After you added Redline, did your car give out white smoke (for a while)? I think I better avoid adding such stuffs before my vehicle inspection. I might end up failing the VICOM test because of white smoke emission. Mingjie Neutral Newbie June 1, 2008 Share June 1, 2008 Fuel additives or "octane boosters" like STP doesn't work. Saw a UK documentary on effects of such additives before. In fact, the power dropped by about 3%. But don't take my word for it...u can google for such info. Think i saw a youtube or similar video on it also. Kb27 Supersonic June 1, 2008 Share June 1, 2008 Mine is 1.6m...so fc is much better due to the manual gear. Vpower contains cleaner, but I guess we got to work out how much return if we add a cleaner separately and use 92 for example. For Redline, I only use 1 tab (maintenance dosage) per tankful, so it last me 10 tankful for one bottle. I try to stretch it further, by alternating tankful. No, I never get any white smoke as I don't use much....but the plugs inside did get a little reddish in colour especially around the white insulator. Redline is worth a try. Any side-effects? In the beginning i know nuts about engine oil mah, so i just use whatever the mechanic at the shell station give me, unil i start surfing MCF then i gain more knowledge then only i go for 5W30 mobil. Better rev. Engine just few months over 4 years. Improvement from 5W50 to 5w30 is from 9-10km/L to about 12-13km/L. For one period i used Redline Fuel system cleaner, my FC goes down to 13+km/L (sometimes drive without aircon) Happy sia... But for past 6 months i never use any fuel system but still maintain 5w30, pumping Caltex RON95, i get about 12km/L for FC (all the way ON aircon).
