the token is time based.

 

Dbs server and token has the same timing, when u press on the token, based on the time, it uses an algorithm to generate the 6 digits. Server will verify the 6 digits is indeed the same based on time too. think it lasts 1 min be4 the 6 digits expires.

 

If batt is weak, the token's timing will be out of sync with the server, hence the authentication may fail.

actually, MAS is advising that the banks have a 3rd level of authentication. THis is done prior to fund transfer. Details are not out yet but I heard it over the news under MAS advisory.

 

Citibank's HP method is indeed more use friendly. No need to bring the dongle around.

I, on the other hand, perfer dongle. More control in my hands, I don't have habit of losing things.

 

For overseas users, SMS can be unreliable. Either the home telco got problem or foreign country telco got problem or msg is sent late.

 

The thing is after u kenna Standchart's disastrous implementation of SMS only 2FA, u really want the bank to give u a blardy dongle and leave u the fark alone.

 

Now they lan lan issue dongle because they chose the more expensive method (local and overseas SMS) and yet kenna so much complaints.

 

I got 6 dongles with me. Internet Banking is a life saver for those overseas.

i tried memorizing the number .. when i log into the IB webbie..

 

i key-ed in.. i think if u just remember that same set of number, u can throw the device away liao..

 

yet to try memorizing the number for 1 day.. just tried for like 1hr..

yah damn i lost my iB device, bo bian replace another one wif the $20 charge.

kaox lagi suay, the replacement one faulty one, first digit display can only see partially. E.g. i mistook an 8 for a 3..
