After AUTO RX treatment, and a rinse phase. Since I was going to change spark plugs, engine oil and filter anyway, I thought it was a good time to de-carbon. I used a rather radical method, and not many people may be comfortable with it, but my engine felt a bit "lighter" - more responsive - after the process. not much needed: 1. 1.5L cold water (preferably distilled) 2. A screw driver 3. Open bowl/container with flat base 4. double side tape Here goes after warming up your engine: 1. attach the container with double-sided tape to your battery. 2. fill it up with water 3. increase idle rev to about 2,000 - 2,500 using your screw driver 4. unplug the vacuum hose from your distributor or PCV valve NOW BE VERY CAREFUL HERE 5. Put the vacuum hose just above the water surface (NOT INTO THE WATER.) I repeat, NOT INTO THE WATER! Just above the water surface. the vacuum will create enough force to suck up the water. it will look like a tornado between the hose and the water surface. REMEMBER! DO NOT DIP THE HOSE INTO THE WATER - it will hydrolock your engine (engine tio siong), as water cannot be compressed. 6. Make sure the engine does not die. listen very carefully to the engine. and give extra throttle if needed. 7. once the water has run out, be sure to drive around for about 15-20 minutes. try to keep revs higher than usual. oh btw, it's great way to smoke out mosquitoes! white steam/smoke coming out of the exhaust. be sure not to do in an open air car-park with four point-blocks surrounding. sure kena complain. find an industrial park or something during the weekends. how it works: the water being sucked in will create a mist when it enters the cylinder chamber. the cold moisture will react with the hot carbon and it will loosen them out. however, if you are having oil leaks already, do not try this - it will worsen the situation. just for reference i'm using 10W-30 oil without any oil consumption. ↡ Advertisement Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

Kb27 Supersonic August 3, 2008 Share August 3, 2008 I use water de-carbonization regularly. The trick is control the water flow rate. I disconnect the pcv hose and put a t-split on the window washer hose and connect to the air intake hose. Smhomie Clutched August 3, 2008 Share August 3, 2008 I wouldn't do that if I were you The PCV (Positive Crank case Ventilation) is usually a one-way ball spring loaded barb. It only allows spent gases to pass when the car is in vacuum ie. idling and decceleration where vacuum is at 22-16 InHg. When you are accelerating and WOT (Wide Open Throttle), there is no vacuum or 14.7psi relative atmospheric pressure. You will not be able to inject any water through the PCV no matter how hard you try, it is closed due to the spring ball inside the valve. It is only actuated when vacuum exceeds its pre-tensioned spring rate. The PCV is meant for emission purposes to relieve upper cylinder pressure and to recirculate spent gases to be reintroduced back into the combustion chamber for the next burn cycle. Besides, doesn't make sense to create water marks on my nice windscreen on a nice sunny day just to decarbonize my engine My advice is to quickly revert to stock to avoid possible damage to your PCV or have bloated washer tubing. But again, have to be careful. You can't add too much water at one time or the engine may stall. Just feed a bit and let it "choke". Smhomie Clutched August 3, 2008 Share August 3, 2008 Sorry, pls disregard my earlier post I misunderstood your connection which is to your air intake My personal take is still not advisable to do your method. Simple reason : a) the water injected at your air tube would be a trickling stream not an atomised mist form. The water stream you have injected would flow to the intake manifold plenum and collect at the lowest point. Water is heavier than the air and the velocity through the plenum cannot carry the weight to the combustion chambers, so it has to wait for latent heat of vaporisation to take place which is not exactly ideal. b) the water (liquid state) will not be equally distributed to the 4 intake runners that lead to your combustion chamber. A fine mist of water would see more success with equal distribution. Effectively, you maybe decarbonizing only random chambers, not all 4 unfortunately. In my opinion, I would advise you to revert to stock to avoid any contingent problems arising. Kyojin 1st Gear August 3, 2008 Author Share August 3, 2008 do you use windshield washer? that thing contains some alcohol, not sure if you wanna really prime your entire intake with flammable liquid! imagine a back fire! but if you are using non-alcohol based fluid, i think it's an excellent idea! but don't you need to press and hold for a long time? i thought the decarbon will only work when a substantial amount of water is used? I think alcohol is not too bad either, except for mileage..I believe US is using E85 fuel, which is quite a bit of alcohol (ethanol). I just tried this morning as I did the mod yesterday. I wouldn't press the wiper stick for more than one second. It pushes in quite a bit of water. Even the CEL light up for a couple of seconds, then go off.
