One word - Disappointing.

Went to test it with my dad a few days ago.

Passenger seat squeaked when the cushion is depressed. Plastics look cheaper than older corollas. Front glove compartment mis-aligned.

Maybe that was a lemon. Ignore that it was a test car.

But it's just evident how standards have dropped. Latio is a much better car anytime, as much as I can't tolerate its looks.

Interior space can be deceptive. Got to evaluate other considerations like intruding dashboard and side door which eats into space, how much the front seats are pushed back, how thin/thick is the seat padding (seen cars with TIBS's style of thinly padded seats which are not as comfy), how tall is the roof (basically useless space but give percpetion of roominess) etc...

Altis very decent and comfortable car.

Quiet and reliable too.

Some feel 1.8 is better ride than 1.6 while others think 1.6 is enough.

Some think 1.8 engine not as fine as 1.6 while others feel no different at all between the 2.

Test drive yourself to feel it. [thumbsup]

Anyone driving the new altis?

Heard that its soundproofing is well known. Any comments on comfort?

Dunno how true. If true then beri sad leow. Heard only the external of the car was given new looks. The rest they are still using the same old engine and 4 speed gearbox. No Dual VVTI for this new generaton 10 corollas.

Depend on what you want.

Comfort? Go for Sylphy loh....

Performance? Honda...

Safety and stable? Conti....

Value for money? Altis...

Hard to find a car that fits all.

My dad previously owns BMW 5series and now the merc E-class. I dare say the soundproofing and comfort matched to these 2 high end cars.

The legroom for the rear pax is excellant. I am very sure the one who find his collegue's car tight is because his collegue pushed the front seats alot back.

Given the price, it really excel in all aspects except it's not the best in all aspects, except soundproofing which is the best in its range.

You will not go wrong nor regret to get this new Altis....and better to get 1.8l one.

I don't think it even come close to matching 5-series ('06' model) or e-class ('07 model) comfort or soundproofing. There is quite a but of road noise and wind noise. But it's good enough for it class.
