Thats what the saleperson said yesterday when I was there. They want to be 1st for the conti brand this year.....I hope my friend's purchase can help somewhat.

Anyway...its desperate times like this that really gives genuine offers on the car and freebies that makes buying a luxury car 'more worth it'.

haha... this year BMW sales losses to merc... last burst of fire!

It's funny a girl want to choose such "auntie" or "tai tai" kind of car. If my gf wants a car and for that budget I get her a MINI Cooper S. 520 & E200 is kinda boring.

Just went to see the two cars with my girlfriend and her Boyfriend......apparently her BF wants to buy one car for her. Don't ask me why so good or what did she do to deserve it.

Both cars are equally good and classy looking.

The features are more or less there.

BMW 520 = $140k

16" tyre, with i-drive+LCDscreen, keyless entry and everything electric.

Merc E200 = $156k

18" tyre, keyless entry, local installed reverse camera+2"lcd screen and everything electric.

Seeking the stereotypical view from you guys........which is a better car for a girl to drive?

Ignoring maintenance and breakdown issues, which I think both are similar. Let put cost out of the question since it will be "free" for her.

Which is more appropriate in the view of others perception for a young girl to drive?

I would choose other cars but since these are the only 2 choices available, I would go for the E200 Kompressor. If the 520i had a turbocharged inline 4 then it would be a different story. The new E class will be here in 2009. But this current facelifted W211 (?) E class is quite sleek looking, especially the avantgarde version with the slightly lowered suspension, faux AMG rims and the gigantic ah beng grille. Hehe. Get it in maroon red (towkay colour) or bronze so you won't get mistaken for a taxi. Just joking.

For a young girl to drive, both are inappropriate. But if your friend wants to appear more sexy and approachable, go for the 520i. If she wants to appear more ice queen, tai-tai like and hard-to-get, then E200K for her. Different female image will appeal to different guys so it depends on what kind of guys she wants to look at her. Hehe.

Well well well...my friend has decided to go for the BMW 520.

Apparently, the final price offered by the 'desperate' saleperson is too tempting to resist. The condition imposed is to register the car by end of this year(the saleperson will handle it), and to choose from the ready stocks(lucky got the color my friend like).

Upgraded to 17" FOC, plus 3yrs totally free regular maintenence, plus some other freebies from sale person's pocket!

Good choice! [drivingcar]

Get the Bavarian Motor Works.. (BMW) i suggest u get the 523i instead of 520 though..

If i am not wrong, there is no more 523i for sale. To get a 6 cyclinder for the 5 series, one needs to buy a 525i or 530i.

I think I would choose the Merc 200 as it is a better car as compared with the BMW520 which has a BMW 320 engine. Besides, Merc200 has a higher OMV and has higher paper value. However, the downside is that you need to pay more for a Merc200.

Both are not my cup of tea but given a choice, I will go for E200. I'm more concerned about power delivery, the rest come later.

i'd say go for the BMW, since it's a gal driving, looks will still appeal more than the power of the engine. n in my opinion, the BMW looks nicer!

I would choose to wait for the new E class to come out. It will be revealed in the Frankfurt Motor Show this year. The BMW 5 series is a good car by the way, but get the 525.

Lee pee, what happened to your Cayman?

Now not looking for caymen anymore. Poor economic times ahead for the next two years. Better to stick to cheaper depreciating cars like Mx-5.

Hoping to get my $8 catB COE next week.

520 has a 320 engine, and E200 has a C200 engine!

What's your point?
