Mingsect 5th Gear June 1, 2009 Share June 1, 2009 (edited) Hi all, just to continue on the review of the pirelli rossos and the bridgestone re001. Have ran the re001 for slightly under 1000km, i believe it should be run in nice and proper by then. Usually for me as a basis to see how grippy the tyres are, there'd be this slip road that i'd usually go for. So today was heading home early after meeting a client, realised the ECP was empty and my exit is at Xilin Ave. I'd usually take the slip road if there is no traffic, which is slightly uphill left hander at about 140km/h and on the pirellis i had before, it was just noise that were coming out from the left and right front tyres, no understeering yet, but almost....and today first time i tried on this re001, the car actually understeered across 1 lane and i dont think the grip is lacking, and ontop of that the rear was bouncing more than normal, was a weird feeling, never had that with the rossos either. i think what made it understeer was that the tyrewalls were soft. literally can feel the sidewall collapsing and not the tyre giving way. With the rossos before, could feel the walls flex but becuase it was so much stiffer, it was just that grippier. So anyway, i realise that the tyre isnt at fault, i think becasue the c70 weighs a buffalo, the re001 is just too soft for it because of its mass. So for c70 owners, i think its best to look for tyres that are minimum 97 load rating so as not to overpower the tyres specially for owners who have optioned for the 18' rims as those rims come with rossos which are 97Y rated. Hope it helps and today onwards will stick to the speed limit and not do anymore funny tests. you have any idea how much the pirelli rossos cost ? compared to the re001 ? believed these 2 brand/model of tyre have different class of grip / use.. Dennisk Clutched June 1, 2009 Share June 1, 2009 RE001 quite good with dry and wet... Downside is quite noisy when approching 30K...

Tigershark1976 Turbocharged June 1, 2009 Share June 1, 2009 for me: 1) Falken ZE326- my 1st set of tyre comes with my 2nd hand elantra, dunno the price but performance below average. Not recomended even at cheap price, changed to Firenza ST05 due to upgrade from 14" to 15" rims. Wear rate not sure. 2) Firenza ST 05- Made in indonesia, extremely lousy in wet, okie in dry, very high rolling resistant that can worsen the FC. Poor QC as well. One of the Worst tyre that mankind can made. 3) Goodyear Eagle F1 (Thai)- Got this tyre 2nd hand (almost new), good in wet and dry also not bad. good aquascaping as well. cut thru water very well even when tyre left 30% only. Price just a few dollars higher compare to average Thai made tyre. Wear rate cant comment as bought as 2nd hand. 4) Falken ST1115- value for money performance tyre. Braking distance reduce tremendiously compare to the rest of the tyre in this list for both wet and dry. But can get worn at extremely fast rate. finish off before 30K. 5) Bridgestone GR80- Very comfortable tyre. Quiet. performance average. pricing slighly higher compare to the average thai/ indo/ mal made tyre, cant remember last how long but if not wrong quite reasonable. 6) Firehawk wide oval- So far, this is the best value for money tyre i ever came across. The pricing is reasonable and performance over wet and drive are good. noise level is a bit high cause im using a lower profile (195/50 R15). last me 45K (with 25% left) with every 10K rotation. 7) Falken 912- Currently using it, comment based on 1st 3,000km. Very affordable, one of the cheaper tyre used... Good all rounders, reasonable noise level, wet and dry reasonable. Do not expect ultimate performance. Good enough for average driver. 8) Goodyear NCT5- Currently use on my father Altis, reasonable price, reasonable performance, nothing so fantastic. See no reason to buy this tyre as there are plenty of tyre in the market that offering better quality and price, last around 60K (with 20% left) with every 10K rotation. Godfinger Neutral Newbie June 1, 2009 Share June 1, 2009 Below is mine : 1) Falken Sincera (175/60/R13) - The worst tires I have ever bought these were on my March K-11 and everything is ok when road is dry. Come wet and my car skidded thrice. On the last occasion, I brake as per normal during a wet day and my car skidded 45 deg when reaching the stop line. 2) Falken ZE326 (185/60/R14) - another bad tire which I do not wish to comment much. I have a Kerb Bash and this tire sidewall was ripped off, showing the carcase. This kerbbash was very minor whereby my rim suffer scratches but the tire gave way which lead to my 3rd set of tires. 3) Yokohama ES100 (185/60/R14) - Very good in both Wet and Dry and it really sticks to the road. But noise is unbearable, so much so that I gave after driving for 20K. 4) Hankook RS-2 (195/50/R15) - This is one of the best sets of tires that I have ever bought. Missed it so much especially the rubber smell after every trip. This smell is even present after 10K on the odometer. Very tough Sidewall so less tire flexing and it gets really sticky when warmed up. Small stones and sand can be found on the tire surface almost every time. 5) Yohohama Advan Sport (195/50/R15) - certainly one of the best after RS-2. Tough sidewall and this tire simply doesnt wear out even after 60K of driving.. I got it traded in today because the tires are getting uneven and the threads are about 50% left. Cant imagine driving up to 100K on them. Noise level starts to build up after 20K and now its humming like mad due to the uneven surface. 6) Hankook V12 evo (195/55/R15) - Just bought it today and first impression is that its looks very very normal and run-of-mill tire. Doesnt shout attention nor scream for corners. Fat profile even on 55 and cant imagine how a 60/65 profile will be. slight noise and every faint humming when coming to a stop. Cant comment much on this since I have travel less then 2K on them. The reason for drastic change from UHP-Sports range to UHP-street range of tires is because I am tired of those Humming sound/noise and wanted some performance out from a Street Tire. Thats why I am considering between Federal 595Evo and Hankook over the weekend before I take the plung to Korean.

Junatan Neutral Newbie June 1, 2009 Share June 1, 2009 my camry stock was er30, changed to gr80, then now pp2 gr80 quieter than er30, er30 and pp2 abt the same noise level gr80 comfort better than er30, grip also better than er30, pp2 wins both for grip n wet The GR80 sounds like its good stuff. Asked around and the shops still do stock them. But if the GR80 retails at the same price as RE001, would the RE001 be a better choice? Heard that its not as not noisy for a UHP tire.
