Zakkwylde 5th Gear February 24, 2009 Author Share February 24, 2009 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zWSSq0Aq1f8 Fair comparison in terms of handling. Evo wins hands down in terms of handling and cornering. Could see the body roll, sedan vs hatch. Quashed all perceptions that hatch handles better. I think Subaru makers would revert back to their popular sedan WRX STi after watching this.
Ghostrider 3rd Gear February 24, 2009 Share February 24, 2009 Actual lap around the track...Scooby faster than the Evo X. But Top Gear taken with a pinch of salt lah....sometime very bais....but they are damn entertaining.
Highmount Clutched February 24, 2009 Share February 24, 2009 Im driving a Subaru myself, 08 model. I have to agree that the new hatchback model of Subaru look like a piece of crap ! Totally unbelievable & disgusted. Thumbs up from me to Evo !!!

Slonez Clutched February 24, 2009 Share February 24, 2009 Actually I quite like the new STI, love hot hatches It's the car that stir me up on the upgrade path.
Maffie Neutral Newbie February 24, 2009 Share February 24, 2009 Of course the Evo is going to be faster... you pay up front 25K more for the GSR (from C&C of course, comparing AD to AD) You know what you're getting for 30K more? You get a load more electronics trickery (for handling)... but the most important bit is the SAYC. You hammer down one corner hard in a STI and Evo and you will know the difference. Yes, the STI will split power around in its 4WD - but not the extent of the Evo. STIs will also get a bit more understeer at higher speed, corner for corner - although this can be solved relatively inexpensively with an anti-lift kit. All in all... subaru is more of a 'if you are NOT a good enough driver, you won't be fast', whereas Evo's electronics takes care of a lot of things for you to make you go faster. Maffie Neutral Newbie February 24, 2009 Share February 24, 2009 Actually I quite like the new STI, love hot hatches It's the car that stir me up on the upgrade path. If you got Evo X... my suggestion is don't change to an STI. Not an upgrade lol if you are looking for high speed performance. I have an 06 STI (modded of course) and while it is very competent, the torque feels great and I love it, I do not think it will go faster round a corner than an Evo mod for mod with similar amount of money spent. Of course, I have my own reasons for choosing an STI (the feel-good torque factor mainly, the better ride along with the signature blue paint). However, should I buy another japanese performance car in the future, the EvoX will be my choice (in red ) - unless I can go the full-length and afford a GTR

Errm logic states that its one vehicle vs another not a face-off between two different types of vehicles. I dunno how you came to your conclusion.... Use a bit of science in your arguments please. YellowFlash Clutched February 24, 2009 Share February 24, 2009 if u'd notice, usually in japan best motoring, its the subaru's that wins these test but in topgear, it is always the evo tat wins... well, who do u believe?
Maffie Neutral Newbie February 24, 2009 Share February 24, 2009 if u'd notice, usually in japan best motoring, its the subaru's that wins these test but in topgear, it is always the evo tat wins... well, who do u believe? Win meaning? Overall package including driver's involvement or fastest around a track? If we're taking about being faster around a track on an equal playing field (similar mods etc.), the Evo is better and can definitely produce a faster lap time. YellowFlash Clutched February 24, 2009 Share February 24, 2009 like wat u said, u need a good driver to drive a subaru fast but the evo makes the driver fast...personally i've driven a e9 and a sti 04 v-limited, in terms of power delivery, it is very different...i'd say the evo is much easier to drive...but anyway wat im saying is that topgear reviews are bias, check this vid from the japs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VrFWGfdTnk4
YellowFlash Clutched February 24, 2009 Share February 24, 2009 i'd prefer the IX over the X, at the moment i think the IX's has much more potential and i think its faster than the X as well... anyway its a endless debate over which is a faster car between the wrx and the evo, both are very nice cars... :)
Maffie Neutral Newbie February 24, 2009 Share February 24, 2009 (edited) i'd prefer the IX over the X, at the moment i think the IX's has much more potential and i think its faster than the X as well... anyway its a endless debate over which is a faster car between the wrx and the evo, both are very nice cars... :) Haha, I understand and see your point of view. I watched the video and am just guttered to see the new STI win actually. The driver was damn good as well... using a bit of handbrake to break the rear a bit lose to curb the understeer More potential from the engine? You'd be surprise to know that mod for mod the X 4B11 engine produces more power for it... making more power for your money worth. Of course with the X, one has to be aware that the new SST gearbox cannot take it... you'd have to go with the normal 5spd GSR - which loses to the 6 spd manual in the MR of the IX to keep in the power band of a peaky big turbo. Mmm... come to think of it got a lot of pros and cons of each of the Evos. Nice discussion btw. Edited February 24, 2009 by Maffie
YellowFlash Clutched February 24, 2009 Share February 24, 2009 yepp...sure, forum is for us to discuss and share our opinions... ^^ , and yea the SST has limited potential but it does shift pretty fast though it doesnt pack the punch like in the IX manual versions... sat in a fren's X, think the power delivery is too linear and it feels more like NA rather than TC...heh, not much G-pull ↡ Advertisement
