Echelon 3rd Gear September 8, 2009 Share September 8, 2009 Hi, 1. When my Skoda went for servicing at 50k - i bought my own parts (yes Skoda/Audi/VW/SEAT all share common parts - there are plenty of stockist in Singapore) my servicing cost was the same as the Toyota Altis that my friend brought to Borneo. 2. Skoda's are made in Czec Republic - Europe while Jetta are made somewhere else, not sure where need to confirm with one of the gurus here. 3. Skoda's quality is good, just try the Superb and you will be taken aback by the power, ride superiority and comfort. Plus the new twin door function. (Read that BMW is licensing this for their own twin boot system.) 4. Turbo car - my ride is at 110,000 already - still purring away comfortably. 5. Can chip up - not sure about the new Superb yet, but mine was Stage 1 up to 190 bph - change to a bigger Turbo and will increase to 260bph and up to 300 NM of torque. 6. It is built like a tank - my mechanic brought 3 drill bits and a 30 mins job became a 3 hrs job just to install a reverse camera for me. The owner of the shop told me never to introduce Skoda people to him, not worth the money. Have had a car drive up and rear-ended me, mine had 4 scratches with paint peels....his was a $800 repair cost as the entire corner of the bumper was punched inwards and the front light smashed up. Skoda may not have a name yet, but it is all about Marketing, not long before they climb up the hill.

Miles 4th Gear September 9, 2009 Share September 9, 2009 (edited) Larry, forget about Renault Laguna. Overpriced (i think asking 126k) Think only about VW Passat (new model coming soon, probably next year), Skoda Superb, Audi A4 or BMW 3 series. with 100-120k budget, you can definitely stretch to A4 1.8T Mu (but i hate the multitronic transmission) or 318i/320i ... If you dont mind the lack of space,.... can also think about Lexus IS250. After sales wise, i'd say the best experience you will get will be with BMW and Audi. VW and Skoda (and also Audi) there are plenty of workshops outside you can rely on. Going back to the distributor will certainly be more expensive. PM me if you need more info. btw, i didnt know you drive an Accord. Edited September 9, 2009 by Miles
Ferraricalifornia 1st Gear September 10, 2009 Share September 10, 2009 forget 320i and IS250 if you want performance...even if the car nice to drive...the lack of performance is really a letdown...your ACCORD is better... Audi A4 1.8T Multi-tronic is a CVT transmission which saps power from the engine...so you feel like you're driving a underpowered car, even when it's producing 160bhp... want to get, get the 2.0T 211bhp quattro...from PI...but i don't really like the 'SQUASHED' up styling of the car and the interior design is too boring... these cars get 2nd hand if you must...won't stand to lose much and there are tonnes of variants out there... i'll sincerely recommend a C200K though...really nice drive thanks to supercharger and 184bhp, but the 5A/t can be jerky when shifting from 1st to 2nd gear...
