Redstorm 1st Gear April 14, 2009 Share April 14, 2009 (edited) Taking health supplement like Omega 3 alone is not going to help cut down on high cholestrol level. You have to watch your diet, exercise and medication. Food like red meat (pork, mutton, beef, etc.), seafood (cuttlefish, fish roe, etc.), durian etc. are all bad for your cholestrol. I have had very high cholestrol and my specialist put me on two type of medication - one very expensive type called (Exetrol) ezetimibe in the morning and (Zocor) simvastatin at night. My cholestrol has since been normal despite having occasion red meat and seafood and besides, I seldom exercise nowadays. Oats is well known to help lower your cholestrol. I used to take it every morning and skipped lunch altogether. I lost about 3kg within a month and it also helped lower my cholestrol. Nowadays I hardly take oat as it is very tough taking it every morning for breakfast. Edited April 14, 2009 by Redstorm

Redstorm 1st Gear April 14, 2009 Share April 14, 2009 What are the side-effects of taking prescribed cholesterol pills? I remember taking those tiny pills (can't remember the name) to help reduce cholesterol. No side effect noted. Need to check my cholesterol again very soon..... If you are taking cholestrol medicine, it got to be prescribed by your doctor and he will review your case periodically. And, that involves blood test whenever you go for your medical appointment. The test not only determine your cholestrol level but also whether the medication has any side effect on your other organ like live and kidney. Usually, such medication might affect your liver and/or kidney function. So, the danger of taking such medication without being prescribed by your doctor and going for regular blood test is not something that you should overlook. You should stop self-prescription for your high cholestrol and see a doctor about your problem.

Redstorm 1st Gear April 14, 2009 Share April 14, 2009 lets say u r on cholesterol pill for certain period n everything is back to normal.........wat if u stop e pills, does e cholesterol comes back to haunt u again even if u watch ur diet???? Your cholestrol level went back to normal mainly because of your medication and if you stop it, it will probably shoot up again unless you exercise strict control over your diet and exercise. Santa Neutral Newbie April 14, 2009 Share April 14, 2009 according to my dr, for some people whom our system is already not in good shape - excercise probably can only cut back 10 percent of the cholestrol level and if our triglyceride is less than 100 - it mean our oil intake from food is already very low hence no matter how much u cut back on red meat - also not going to lower the cholestrol. therfore best way is to take daily medication till u die (but have to do periodic blood test to make sure not too much stress on liver). accroding to him, it is better to take daily medication then to left it untreat and subsequently end up with high bood or heart problems.
