yea, the train i was on terminate at amk (after stopping for 10 min b4 reaching amk). after waiting for another 15 min, they announce no more train svc from amk to yishun direction, everyone got off the station.

the behaviour of the pple at the bus stops is damn irritating, some of them run onto the bus lane and road even before the bus stop completely so that they can fight to get up the bus. some even run down the road a few metre before the bus enter the bus berth. no safety at all :( had to give up and call cab in the end

let's be fair, even in New York, trains breaking down and being diverted is quite common. We should be grateful that we even have trains...

Typical Kiasu Singaporean attitude. As if the buses or cabs will not take them. [thumbsdown]

Will SMRT be fined by PTC, and fares raised to cover losses?

Yes they will definitely do so. Show the public that they are doing something. But i think this is more like left pocket out, right pocket in.

I think at around 8pm ppl are hungry and tired, cannot wait to get home. If they were to wait a little longer the other trains reaching AMK will bring more ppl and crowd the bus stops again and again. I dunno if that's being kiasu but if I were there I would wanna get out of there asap.

yalor.. what is the point for PTC to fine SMRT when once SMRT request to raise fares to recover 'operating costs', PTC will agree?? Fines are just part of 'operating costs'...

Let's see...

perhaps there were roughly 5,000 people who got stuck at the MRTs..along the north line (arbitrary number :X)

minimum fare...$1 - entry and exit at same station

that's $5,000, at least

incomplete journeys form other stations not counted..and it'll be more than $1 per trip

Amount earned by SMRT taxis, and/or their buses (since it spoilt along the northbound lines...got more SMRT buses right?)...

let's assume these 5000 people took a SMRT bus towards Yishun at $1 per trip too..

that's another $5000

total = $100,000

oh look!

their fines are $100... http://www.straitstimes.com/Breaking%2BNew...ory_360053.html

Well...who out of the 5000 people affected will go ask for a refund?

Yah. I too am getting sick of people who keep using the "world class transport system" as a punch line.

Give some credit to them lar...

World Class Transport...

World Class Land Authority..

Let's compare now and 100 years back.. We are very fortunate already.
