It is true that solar flares happen almost every day, but those are really small and the Earth's magnetosphere can easily deflect the harmful radiation sent in our direction from the sun. Every now & then, a solar 'storm' occurs, meaning a series of flares some stronger than others comes our way. When this happens, the gasses in our upper atmosphere, especially near the poles (as that's where Earth's magnetoshpere converges), get 'excited' and discharges this energy in the form of protons (i.e. visible light). Hence, we get what is known as the 'northen lights' or 'aurora boralis' which is a spectacular light show in the sky. You've seen those colourful neon lights on the signs of bars & pubs right? The physics for that is exactly the same!

 

But once every 100 million years or so, the sun lets out a giant, or super flare that would overwhelm even the strong magnetic field of Earth, completely destroying it. This radiation from space, about a billion times stronger than the strongest UV light we've ever experienced will scorch the Earth black, killing every living thing on the planet. Going underground is not an option either, because the intensity of this radiation will penetrate the Earth's crust up to a mile deep.

 

But what the chances of this event happening in our lifetime, and exactly in the direction of the Earth? Remember that the sun is HUGE! You could fit about 1.3 million Earths into the sun! The super flare could occur from any point on the spherical surface of the sun, as long as it bursts outwards in any direction other than ours, we're safe. So what are the chances? Literally a million to one! Relax lah!!

according to scientists, they say that when human species slowly die off and become extinct along with other living things, the last standing living thing that can survive on earth is the cockroach. the croaches will slowly adapt to the tough surrounding (like after a solar flare or a global nucleur warfare) and become stronger. they will grow to become more intelligent and evolve, like human from ape. after thousands of years, the cockcroaches will develop into civilisation like humankind, and rule the earth. they will be wearing designer clothes, driving cars, going to pub to drink, like what we are doing now. and when they occassionally see a small tiny human running out from the kitchen stove, they will spray bygone to exterminate us.

 

so, if you see a cockcroach now, dont look down on them, because they are much stronger than we think.
