Lexus IS250C or BMW 323iC

Hi,

I did give way and tried to chase after him and see whether my twin turbo can catch up with the car. That car are pulling away from my car as if it has a turbo too....

After some internet research, this car is a hybrid and has a 339bhp....and it performs like a 4.5litre car. My 335 is a stock car but after i chip it, i may be able to smoke it....haha

Cheers..

The GS450h's engine, like the LS600h, uses an electric engine in tandem with its petrol engine to boost power at high loads and provide some economy at low speeds in town...its Lexus' current philosophy when it comes to hybrid technology at the moment (boost power at the expense of some of the economy you would get from going 'full' hybrid like other models)

No shame in getting 'smoked' by it...its the fastest production lexus at the moment. Or so they say, anyway. In a straight line, maybe no contest...but i'm sure your car would have the advantage in a situation that involved more cornering, rather than in a straight line, at high speed, where a car like this excels. I'm a lexus owner...but i am not biased. Credit where its due. Different strokes for different folks. A fair comparison would be your 335 against something like the IS350, which is unfortunately not sold in Singapore

The thing is, even GS450 the top speed is only 155mph. Same as BMW 335. If the BMW already doing 220km/h....both can accelerate to 155mph (about 250km/h). Can chase, both are electronically limited.

And BMW is not that expensive to service. If you compare Kah motor serving Accord and PML servicing a 5 series, the price difference is not that far apart.

Like the ISF, they say a M3 killer, but still whether straight line or on the track, with more hp, still slower.

By the way, many of us drive fast on NSH, I on drove at 240km/h because I think any faster is quite difficult to control if accident 99% die, so just take care of each other if anything happens. All the risk takers.

Hi Guys,

i wonder if anyone knew tat lexus GS have a different model 450 something....

I was travelling in my 335i at NSH yesterday and was suprised by this car....

On an open stretch at NSH without much cars, i accerelate to about 220km/h and this car came from behind very fast and i mean fast....

I give way and managed to see to back with the logo 450 and the car just sped off effortlessly....maybe 240-250km/h range....

Is there such a fast car in the lexus range?

cheers

Aiyoh at that kind of speeds, a car one and a half times the capacity of your 3litre 335 will definitely have advantage.

GS450 should be compared to a 550i or a E500, certainly not with a 335i

I wouldnt compare a Lexus IS250 with your 335i either, would you? [;)]

I guess, it's becos you thought 335i was "king" already, never expected a Lexus to be quicker. heh.

thats why, "there's no replacement for displacement"

If I am cruising at 240km/h, I really don't see how another car which the top speed is limited at 250km/h, can 'accelerate away effortlessly'. Even if that car has 1,000hp. And at 200+km/h if the car from behind is just 20km/h faster than the car in front, it will also will not be 'coming from behind really fast'.

Even S600 AMG, top speed is still 250km/h. The difference is how fast the S500 get from 100km/h to 250km/h. But once you get to 200+km/h, it's all the same.

S600 AMG? Can the owner be called a wannabe? cos there is no such thing.....

Just an example. Key point is that most are limited to 250km/h, hence impossible for a Lexus GS450 to smoke another car running at 220-240km/h.

So there are many Lexus supporters around, therefore I went to test drive the IS250 today, not just talk while never tried them. I find that the car is quite balanced meaning engine has torque even at low end and well matched to the gearbox that it revs low (normally less than 2,000rpm) and change gear at appropriate time, and smooth, and the suspension is comfortable. But the steering is just too light to be called sporty. So it is smooth and refined, but never sporty, just not enough feedback.

Overall, IS250 is smoother than the Turbo Audi A4 which I test drove today as well.

The A4 I tried was A4 2.0T quattro. A quick car with 211hp. Problem is that at comfort setting, the car cannot turn properly and understeer, and at sports setting, the steering does become heavier but.....the engine rev harder, too hard up to 3,000 even at half throttle. What I want is harder steering and suspension, but lower rev with torque. Funny thing is with 4WD, I don't feel more grip than a BMW (in dry condition). Of course in the rain, this car will absolutely smoke a BMW with its traction. But A4 has the best interior.

A true driver's car? Still a BMW. The suspension set up and steering are just the best. Tail slide is easily manageable.

A true comfortable car? I think Lexus and Merc are right up there. But the Merc has better interior, Lexus is quieter.

A fast car? the Audi A4 2.0T quattro is really fast, and they offer MTM chip up, by Audi. When cornering fast, still BMW is more fun.

Lexus is like a pasta made by Japanese, for the asian taste.

Japanese are used to eat everything while they are alive, how they can know how to make sausages?

GS450 VS BMW 335

That is an interesting vid, thanks for posting it

Full torque output at 0 rpm thanks to the electric engine + no need to shift gear really makes it run (but having said that, i am still not a fan of CVTs like on the GS)

Anyone else here think the gearshift time on the 335 in the vid is really slow? i'm pretty sure my IS (or most standard automatic cars) can shift way faster than that. maybe its just perception

would love the 450h engine in an IS body with the standard 6 speed autobox

Do go and try BMW at their showroom and then you'll know whether the gear change is slow, that's the only way to find out.

I used to admire Audi. After some test drive....I think BMW still feels more suitable. It is up to individual. e.g. some people don't like burger or pasta, but they like MOS Burger or Waraku pasta.

recently i found my lexus is250 front right rim badly out of shape (due to running into a big pothole in my trip north), call lexus to enquire about buying back one single 17' rim .

It cost a whopping $2500 for a single rim without a tire or installation. Went to the tire shop and they offer me $2200 for 4 brand new 18' rims with tires????

i would take the 323 anytime cos of ride quality. not a big fan of the IS250's driving platform... i drove a camry to lexus and tried it - felt almost the same. whereas bmw is a great driver's car / conti car feel.. its rearwheel drive too...

Too bad i'm more into aesthetics.. hence i went for Audi..
