Buying a new phone...feasible?

My Singtel contract is up for renewal soon but I realised the range of Nokia phones available from Singtel with contract is very limited. So an idea comes to mind and will appreciate comments from folks here.

I can't find any phones that I want from the current offerings from Singtel. So I was thinking of buying a phone anyway, since they are discounted, and then selling it away. I will then get my desired phone model from a shop w/o contract.

I dont intend to trade in the newly bought phone from singtel to the shops because the trade in prices are pathetic.

eg The retail price of a new Nokia 5800 w/o contract is ~$600. If I buy a new one from Singtel and sell it to a willing party at 10~15% discount....do you think anyone will take it? He gets a brand new phone and I get a price that is better than the trade in value.

Or if you have a better idea...please share...thanks very much

Yes, your idea will work if you can buy a phone which is on demand. Just go and survey the forums like Hardwarezone and VR-Zone for the selling price of the phone.

Wait a few more days for the PC Show which will happen from 11 - 14th June 2009. Singtel having a booth there. I am sure there will have good deals for mobile lines recontract.

Cheers

Troublesome.

yeah...little bit. But too bad I couldnt get the phone model from singtel directly.

either way i will have to make 2 trips. 1st trip to singtel and 2nd trip to sell my old phone at another shop. Singtel's trade in prices also no good.

Bro, can elaborate?

dealer pays for the line meaning they will pay my monthly subscriptions?

Or maybe you can PM me the details? Thanks

basically the person buying your line is paying for the discounts (based on your mobile plan) and the price of the fone that he/she buying.

e.g. if you got a low end plan (singtel for example) and u wanna buy a iphone 16GB. i shud tink it would cost few hundreds. The dealer might pay u like $250 for your plan and then top up any excess to buy the iphone. End of the day, the dealer gets the fone at a discounted rate (recontract rate), u get your cash and singtel is happy to since u signed another 24 mths.

For my dad's case i just did this for him and she willing to give 1k for his singtel mobile plan premium 700.

(found the contact in hwz forum)<-- there is a FEW people doing this, just sms/call them for and select the highest price they willing to give.

Is it being overhyped (and overpriced)?

Basically its just another symbian based phone with touch screen+qwerty KB, no?

I agree. the n97 has created so much anticipation with its much lauded touch screen and symbian implementation, but in actuality it is already slow in the introduction of such features. also, it is at best an enhancement over the existing line of nokia n series phones, with little revolutionary features. i find n series phones to be bulky, of squeaky plastic quality and aesthetically inferior to other makes.

but i must say i am a nokia long time user.
