Icyfreakass 1st Gear September 2, 2009 Share September 2, 2009 Anyone heard of this yet? HIR = Halogen Infrared with reflective films. What are Halogen Infrared light bulbs? A. Halogen Infrared or HIR lamps retain all of the benefits of standard halogen but are even more efficient. Halogen-IR uses a high-temperature reflective film to coat the inner lamp and trap wasted invisible infrared light within it. This redirected infrared heats the filament to produce more visible light, resulting in efficiency gains over standard halogen lamps of over 40%. You get the same crisp white light, beam control, and compactness of standard halogen. Anyone using this yet? Is it legal? Tanwill Neutral Newbie September 3, 2009 Share September 3, 2009 (edited) Hi all, I bought some of these HIR in H7 for my own use. I had tried them and found that they are indeed brighter than normal hologen ; especially if your headlights are those projector or with an aluminium covering cap over the bulb. anyway, had some left over. I can sell them to any bros here who want to try. Had bought 3 colour of the HIR in H7 only. (clear, light blue tint and blue tint) and depends on individual prefer. Nine_eleven 2nd Gear September 3, 2009 Share September 3, 2009 i've used them in my previous car before too, HB4 application. bought off ebay, made by toshiba. oem lifespan, the lumens output is in the middle of stock halogens and HID. very good value for money bulbs, blows philips bulbs by a mile! good stuff! There was a minimum purchase of 50 pcs ea type and bare packaging, otherwise price will be quite high for individual purchase. I had earlier sold most of them to ppl in hyundai forum and the previously yahoo buy / sell ....etc, and kept 10 pcs ea for myself. I am not a commercial seller. Guess the next best without getting into trouble with the law is the HIR ; as it is still Halogen. I understand that some Toyota are equip with HIR as standard OEM bulb. Lifespan.............honestly dont know........ mine installed on a Hyundai still working (after some 1.8 yrs). Limbat 1st Gear September 6, 2009 Share September 6, 2009 More reading for HIR bulbs - The technology used in the HIR bulb is called Halogen Infrared Reflecting and is relatively new. Rather than having a tubular shape, the HIR bulb has a unique spherical shape, centered around the filament. And, as the flash in this photo shows, there is a faint iridescent coating applied to the inside of the bulb glass. This microns-thin film is the key to the bulb's light output. The film reflects a portion of the infrared light back at the filament, causing it (the filament, not the glass housing) to become hotter and, therefore, burn brighter without shortening the bulb's life. The result, is a brighter light without shorter life or incompatibility with stock wiring. The beam pattern of your headlights will not change, but there will be considerably more light within the pattern.
