Nullifi3d 4th Gear September 13, 2009 Share September 13, 2009 Erm technically you don't have to give anything. Its different from attending a wedding ceremony. Just go with an empty stomach, dress nice and enjoy the festivities.

Mat_wira Neutral Newbie September 13, 2009 Share September 13, 2009 Bro, just come to your Muslim fren house to enjoy the food, and just bring one or two Ang Pow for your Muslim fren children. As Hari Raya, children will enjoy more joy, as the adult will only concern about forgiving and seeking forgiveness. just my 2 cents view...
Moozzie Neutral Newbie September 13, 2009 Share September 13, 2009 Don't spoil market by bringing anything! It may become a habit or culture. A $2 gift to the children will make them happy. Bring yourself is already much appreciated.

Quirky_ster Clutched September 14, 2009 Share September 14, 2009 (edited) Bringing goodies like hamper and "expensive" gifts during Hari Raya visit may cause the host to be uncomfortable to invite you again next time. It may be viewed as troubling the guests. No gifts are expected actually. If you feel uncomfortable, just get them chocolates or something simple for the children. Even just Ang Pau for the kids is good enuf ( $2~$5 ) Not the expensive ones. That should suffice. The best way is to return the favor of inviting them over during your festivities. Other things to watch out for. 1. If the host are having a lot of guest, try not to stay too long. If you see more then 2 guest have come and go, then you have stayed too long. If there are no other guest except you, then stay as long as you want. They enjoy entertaining guest. 2. Their other malay guest typically will not stay for long, so once you are done with your meals, make way for the newly arrived guest to sit around the food areas / goodies. Once they leave, you can come back and take your 2nd/ 3rd round... 3. Eat as much. It will be a compliment to go for 2nd or 3rd serving.. dun be shy here.. they love serving food to guests. 4. Since there may be some old folks that may be in the house or their other guest, dress appropriately, means for ladies, not something revealing or sexy... so best avoid bare top or short skirts... Guys avoid shorts. Bermuda is fine.. but long pants / jeans is better. 5. Take pictures in their house, most of them have spend lots of time and $$ to beautify their house, taking pictures will complement their effort. 6. Avoid taking beer/liquor before coming, they smell of it when you speak is not a welcoming thingy for them. thought they will not throw you out.. but something that they don't like. These are just simple things that will makes your time enjoyable .. both for the host and you as guest. Remember must eat... dun eat means you are not appreciating on the food being prepared for you.. Hope this helps! Goldpen Neutral Newbie September 14, 2009 Share September 14, 2009 Agrees with Bro Quirky_ster, I am a muslim and when I play host on Hari Raya, I'd appreciate if my guest come decently dressed (as mentioned by bro Quirky) and eat as much as possible. And also, NO GIFTS. if you want, you can give $2-$5 green packet to the children. Thats all. Its not about freeloading, Hari Raya is a festivity, so don't have to bring gifts. Dinner party, house warming are diff altogether. So TS, just go and eat ok And to all muslim bro and sis here at MCF, Selamat Hari Raya. (hope i'm not too soon ) Cheers
