Alcantara Durability

Hi All,

Have anyone come across problems with alcantara leather in terms of long term durability and wear resistance compared to leather?

Cars that come with it includes Latio, Passat, TT/A8 and 911.

It seems there are genuine alcantara, and synthetic ones.

The genuine article seems to loose their "hairs", while nothing has been heard about synthetic ones.

I think genuine one should not "drop" hair. It is suppose to be high quality suede material.

My bottom is clean as well after siting on it in my Superb as well. Only hair I find is my dog's hair, kekeke....

Driving a Latio with the alcantara seats for the past 3 years.

Love it! [thumbsup]

Never really maintain it. Just pat pat it to get rid of whatever dust/loose hair every month or so. Wipe with a white damp cloth every time I wash the car, which is getting less and less frequent.

My seats are beige and the alcantara looks even cleaner than the leather trims. [thumbsup]

No loose alcantara hair sticking to my work pants. Only hair is mine or my cats'.

Best thing about these seats: They don't become burning hot and will not sear your bums, even when parked under the hot sun. I don't have tinted windows at all btw.

No shedding on my alcantara seats either. The only maintenance I do is vacuum the seats once a month and give it a wipe down with diluted Woolite once a year.

Really love the material, nice and grippy compared to leather and does not scald your behind if entering the vehicle after parking under a hot sun.

My old Megane came with Suede and Alcantra combo. All I did was apply Suede protector every 3 months and everything else was just a wipe-down with a damp cloth. Both were fine after 3 years, and then quite a few years after when my friend bought the car off me and kept it till he scrapped it for another Megane.
