Qr25vet Clutched September 18, 2009 Share September 18, 2009 yes its reliable IF u find one in good condition...maintainence wise its fairly reliable but have 2 cut some slack cos of its age...GTis have abit of wiring issues...fuel consumption wise its like 12km/l? thats if the engines healthy and stock... Vinceh 1st Gear October 3, 2009 Author Share October 3, 2009 yup but the problem is how you actually identified the GTi engine to be healthly when you never really owned it? in stock condition, is this car already powerful?
Qr25vet Clutched October 4, 2009 Share October 4, 2009 how can u be so sure that i never owned one before?
Nicholas 5th Gear October 4, 2009 Share October 4, 2009 how can u be so sure that i never owned one before? I think he saying himself never owned it. Vinceh: Get a mechanic or someone who knows cars (like Qr25vet lol) to test drive with you lor. In stock it's already powerful... cause mine is in stock condition except for air filter. Qr25vet Clutched October 5, 2009 Share October 5, 2009 (edited) oh my bad if i have misinterpreted the message...my apologies [sweatdrop] its pretty simple... 1.check for any visible oil leaks 2.start the engine...see if there are any wierd noises or vibrations...and if theres any hard starting 3.open up the oil cap and radiator cap to check if its like "teh-c" or "k----c" colour....thats a obvious sign of a blown head gasket.... and of course before buying the car get a compression test done by a workshop OF YOUR CHOICE.... Qr25vet Clutched October 5, 2009 Share October 5, 2009 okay a compression test is to find out how strong the engine internals are (piston rings/head gasket)...the more u can compress the air/fuel mixture=more energy too low a compression results in lack of power, hard starting and poor fuel consumption...engine will be rough esp during idling...(vibrating) and why i say cold start is cos when the engine is cold..clearances are bigger so faults like compression leaks are more obvious.... the oil and coolant if mixed together gives that coffee with milk look....thats a sign of a blown head gasket or a warped head.... visible oil leaks is like leakages from the distributors, valve cover, oil sump etc etc.... Ken4555 1st Gear December 14, 2009 Share December 14, 2009 Hi, Any one still driving this model? Is this vehicle reliable? Any known maintenance issues? How about its fuel consumption? bro... spend abit more and get a newer car... 20 year old car... haiz... i've own twice COE cars... problem after problem... + road tax more... FC also more... if you want a GTI, GTTI, EG, EF, CRX, PULSAR GTI, RX7 hasvana, MR2, celica Twin turbo, etc (all should hit 20 years liao or by 2011. These kinda old cars if u want it in very good running condition, it will be costly to maintain... you get rust, smell, worn out parts..., unless you on super tight budget, if not dont... if u find some totally re-built ones, it will be very expensive... probably old skhool collection hobbie like AE86 good example So my advice is, if you by a GTI now at market price, i bet you it'll be in a dying condition.. by the way the GTI swift has no power steering. :-)

How about its fuel consumption? i had a fren who owns a GTI once, he "buang" then told his mechanic to change his entire engine to a 1.6L one (wass shipped in from japan).I drove his car last time and his was quite superb.nice torque but no power steering so parking is a big hassel.his was grey body with black top and black rims.owner was a malay chap
