You should be around same generation as me then. My first contract in Y2004 too. 5 years. [laugh]

Edit: I think I mis-read. You left in 2004. I joined in 2004.

His passion for signing on is probably for the stable income & job learning experience as a stepping stone. Btw COA/CDF absolutely abhors transitional types. They don't like the idea of spending fortunes training an individual to prepare him for the civilian sector. [laugh]

Usually those that are really passionate about the Army gives up after seeing it for the facade that it really is. Show and tell.

PP1 was a major problem. After they realise that they can't secure PP2, they transform into a white elephant. [rifle]

Exactly.

If the TS were to really sign on with this kinda mentality, we can be sure we won't see him progressing within the force.

Heard they are doing away with the PP1/2 thing?

Yep. They had a problem as mentioned above.

Now they're shifting to the permanent contract till retirement for WOSpec. It will make it harder to get rid of the trash though.

For the old timers, they were apparently conned into giving up their pensions from what I heard.

Now the only government pension scheme left seems to be for the MIW.

Well, for me, I'm still in the aerospace industry but logistic end of it, as I have done a degree in logistics and supply chain management.

Let me give u the numbers for comparison.

A Senior Tech SSG draws approximately 3.3k.

If ORD, without getting a degree, ST offers u ard 1.9k basic (max. 2.1k). So in order to get back the 3.5k, huge amount of OT is inevitable. Any other aerospace company offers ard the same range....

So in RSAF, u have time but not controlled by u. In the commercial sector, u sell time for money... That is what most ORDed Snr Tech ended up with...

BTW what is the driving force for u to sign on?? U dun have to tell me... just answer the question for urself...

when u sign on, you will still be subjected to book in/out, is that the kind of life you want?

true that you will gain some personal experience, but note that your employers next time will not consider it as experience relevant to the job at all

That's the point the people here are trying to tell you.

From the SAF perspective, they don't want job hoppers. They hope to have people who are willing to commit their entire working life for the betterment of the Armed Forces.

From your perspective, you wish to use it as a stepping stone to gain some experience within the comfort of an "iron rice bowl".

Try completing BMT, go for your vocational/leadership courses, then get to a unit and observe the regular lifestyle and speak to them. If you find the style suitable, you can sign on there and then. Your pay will still be backdated till the date of enlistment.

Its easy to get entrenched in the comfort zone, but is that what you really want? Look at the amount of people trapped inside and trying desperately to leave. Heard about the suicidal officers?

You're in BMT now, there should be regulars in your company. Find time to talk to them. If you're in a warrant officer company, its even better.

Thanks for all the feedbacks. Yes terry, im lucky to be in a warrant officer coy. But i don think airforce life is similar to that of the army?

Still waitin for the next talk to learn more. Now i leaning more towards not signing on.
