  1. TAIPEI: A Taiwanese air force pilot was killed and another was missing on Monday (Mar 22) after their fighter jets disappeared in a suspected mid-air collision off the island's southern coast, officials said. The two F-5E jets disappeared from radar around 3pm (0700 GMT) around 2.6km off the coast of rural Pingtung county, the National Rescue Command Centre said. They were among four F-5Es that took off around 30 minutes earlier for a routine training mission, the centre said, adding helicopters and coastguard ships had joined the search. One of the pilots was found unconscious in the sea but could not be resuscitated and was pronounced dead at hospital. Rescuers were still searching for the remaining pilot. Police confirmed they found a seat with parachute attached on a local highway. The apparent collision was the third such incident in the past half year, at a time when the Beijing-claimed island's armed forced are under increasing pressure to intercept Chinese aircraft on an almost daily basis. While Taiwan's air force is well-trained and well-equipped, mostly with US-made equipment, it is dwarfed by China's. Beijing views the democratic island as its own territory and has never renounced the use of force to bring it under Chinese control. The official Central News Agency said the air force had now grounded the F-5 fleet that operates from the Chihhang air base, where the aircraft are based. The US-built F-5 fighters first entered service in Taiwan in the late 1970s and have been mostly been retired from front-line activities, though some are still used for training and as a back-up for the main fleet. Another F-5 crashed in October, killing the pilot. The following month a much more modern F-16 crashed off Taiwan's east coast, whose pilot also died. In January of last year, Taiwan's top military official was among eight people killed after a helicopter carrying them to visit soldiers crashed in a mountainous area near the capital Taipei. The incidents have raised concern about both training and maintenance, but also the pressure the air force is under to respond to repeated Chinese flights near the island. Taiwan's Defence Ministry has warned Chinese aircraft, including drones, are flying repeatedly in Taiwan's air defence identification zone, seeking to wear out Taiwan's air force.
  2. http://www.abc.net.au/news/2015-06-30/indonesian-military-plane-crashes-in-residential-area-30-dead/6584602 An Indonesian military plane has crashed in a residential area in the capital of North Sumatra with 113 people on board, according to Indonesian Air Force officials. Indonesian Air Force chief of staff Agus Supriatna said 49 bodies had so far been pulled from the rubble, and 23 of those bodies had been identified. Mr Supriatna said there was no way anybody could have survived the crash. He said the C130 Hercules had 12 crew and another 101 passengers on board when it took off from Soewondo Air Base in Medan shortly before midday (local time). Minutes into the flight, the pilot requested permission to return to the base. The plane then banked to the right and plummeted into the ground, bursting into flames and wiping out buildings, including part of a hotel. When a commercial jet crashed in the same street nearly ten years ago, dozens of people on the ground were also killed.
  3. I was travelling along the small stretch of road from SengKang turning to the main road to KPE...this old golden colour Honda City was so noisy (modified exhaust) was beside me slamming the accelerator away and trying to pass me; that was when I step on and he was later behind me a distance away. While he was later moving beside me, I saw him in his airforce flying suit attire wearing a sunglass with a inner red T-Shirt and most likely from Paya Lebar Airbase (going towards old tampines road) showing me the yawn sign all the way from the strech of road. I am not going to comment about his behaviour of trying to race with me but it is the way he was in his uniform and flying suit with his window wind down to make such a stupid and arrogent gesture to make me think how the uniform group behave in public nowadays. Also, I don't want to think likewise he ever had a chance to overtake my vehicle anyway so what on earth is he thinking?
  4. Do fighter pilots wear pampers when they are on mission? What happens if they need to No.1 and No.2 mid flight? Are there any pilots who can fly plane but fail TP?
  5. Hi, anyone with experience can advise me on this topic? Current things that makes me wanna sign on is that I don wanna waste my 2 yrs in army doing nothing, if i sign on i can learn more stuff and treat it as a working experience. I have a Dip in Mechatronics. I am signing on not bcos of the $$. For me i don really like military training and life that much at all so i thought i might as wel use this time to learn something about aircrafts. Any bros know the work timing? I am thinking that if its stay out, i can do my own business at night as well, and not being stuck in this profession for the rest of my life. Im not planning to be a senior tech for the rest of my career, and im gonna just treat it as a working experience and learning of new stuffs. Anyone has with experience in this matter? Thank u guys.
