Ironstarz 1st Gear January 25, 2010 Share January 25, 2010 If i'm not wrong, the air freight is not just about weight, its about volumetric weight. Meaning to say you have a big boss, even tho its only 50grams, the charges will be quite high as they they by the volume of the boxes.
Cheza Neutral Newbie January 25, 2010 Share January 25, 2010 Usually general cargo below 45kg, more advisable to go via courier service. eg. Fedex, DHL, TNT etc as they are able to provide door to door service cheaper than freight forwarding companies
Pisces69 6th Gear January 25, 2010 Share January 25, 2010 (edited) Hi, if i wish to self import 18" rim from Germany via air freight, may i know how much will it cost? each rim is about 10kg. 4 rims. dont know the dimension of the packaging box. any bro/sis from freight industry can advice? ============== Why dont u just ask the supplier to quote u C&F or CIF. Better still Door to Door. Like that the freight already arranged by the supplier. Less headache for u. Or just call one of the many freight forwarders here & check. U can also consider ship by seafreight. Sud b cheaper. Takes >1 month to reach u. P.S. If insurance is not arranged by supplier U sud get it done yourself. Just in case its damaged or missing. Vega Turbocharged January 25, 2010 Author Share January 25, 2010 Thanks for all the input. If i still insist to bring them in via air freight, may i know roughly how much will it cost? less than $500 possible?
Cheza Neutral Newbie January 25, 2010 Share January 25, 2010 Anything less than 100kg is not suitable to go via Seafreight, the cost will be much more expensive compare to Airfreight. I am from a freight forwarding company, and if u want a estimate cost, I can ask my sale ppl to contact u. I am not from sales though.
Yeobh 4th Gear January 25, 2010 Share January 25, 2010 It's possible if you are a regular shipper but for one off business deal the cost per kg will be high. You may still have to pay for local airport handling & delivery charges.
Drumstick Clutched January 25, 2010 Share January 25, 2010 Judging from your description of 4 rims 40kgs - around 0.3cbm Courier service would be a solution if you wanna save the hassel. You can call DHL, Fedex to collect from the location and make payment upon delivery. Which is FC, freight collect. An invoice or manifest ( document ) will need to accompany the items. Make sure it is less than sgd$250 value indicated or you will need to pay 5% GST You can also mark it as personal items with no commercial value. You can request for normal service instead of express service which is normally 20% cheaper. ( Normally take a few days more between 3 - 7 days ) If I remembered correctly, from Germany to SIN, 50kgs on standard service should be around 700. Express courier about 1.2k Forget about seafreight as it would take at least 12 days to reach and I would not trust the people at KD to handle the items with care. Its a mess at the FTZ in KD when they do unstuffing especially for boxes. Get the exact weight and dimension from the seller first. Easier to chk on the price. Mel607 Neutral Newbie January 25, 2010 Share January 25, 2010 Use freight fowarders who have shipping routes to Europe. Ask them for LCL charges...Less than container Load...Go to Singapore Customs website and search for the approved companies doing this.

Im not sure what is the breakeven point but 1 m3 sud b about there. Seafreight is much cheaper than airfrt. If supplier can quote Door to Door, it saves him the hassle of getting all the coordination & charges here. Especially since he is not familiar with freight charges. ↡ Advertisement
