Actually, not very sure.....

I use 50 weighted but I also add in viscosity modifier (either c-----e or Moly EP)

So could be even more than 60..... but it'll thin out in no time....... then top up further with very thick mix when oil is consumed.

What car you have? Sounds demanding on engine oil... [sweatdrop]

I read an experiment on BITOG forum on Schaeffer Moly EP. It actually thicken up as it is heated up, this is unlike typical engine oil where it will thin down when heated. So no need to add too much Moly EP to each oil change.

My turbo feeds off the engine oil..... so I suspect it is the culprit that shears it down...... even Moly EP cannot eliminate this..... it can only extend the life slightly.

Been using 5w40 for many years. Only thing that changed is the brand from Royal Purple to ELF Excellium to Mobil Delvac1 to my current staple, Schaeffer's Supreme 9000.

wow... very suprise to see that majority of the MCFer are using xW30 oil, in fact, was also quite suprise to see there are 15% of the members using xW20 (im 1 of them). All along, i tot XW40 is the most commonly use oil in SG.

first number is thickness of oil. this number is cold performance. Higher number is thicker which protects your engine better when you start up your car from cold.

W stands for winter but is commonly misinterpreted as weight.

2nd number is the viscosity of the oil. This number is for operating temp performance. higher number is more viscous which has better performance at higher temperatures and the oil also breaks down at higher temperatures. however, the thicker the oil, the more resistance it has hence FC is affected.

For tropical climate like singapore, a higher first number is ideal.

2nd number would depend on your car engine type and usage. Rev happy? got turbo? GDI engine? alot of high RPM highway runs? very high mileage vehicle? use a more viscous oil.

intending to get better FC? smoother acceleration? use less viscous oil. tradeoff is wear protection is reduced.

the thing is: i just changed my engine oil.

same specs: semi synthetic: 10w40

but the FC increased so much from about 14 to 10.5! is this normal or issit just cos of the different additives inside. was using c-rlube to mobil.

It could be that your engine oil is too thick.
