My Uncle told me.....

Today i sat in my Uncle's taxi and we began to have a small conversation.....

Because i am still a P Plate so he share with me more about some issues on road...

I couldn't remember the whole conversation but roughly some of the conversation:

If the road limit is 70km/h, you will be save so long as you driving under 80km/h,

If the road limit is 80km/h, you will be save so long as you are driving under 90km/h,

If the road limit is 90km/h, you will be save so long as you are driving under 100km/h.....

In those cases, he also mentioned that this theory also applies to even speed catching cameras......

If that is the case, i am wondering why the LTA didn't set a proper standard speed limit in the first place?

I help u sum up

As long as less than 10 kmh above speed limit u r ok.

Its true cos TP need to give people margin of error.

They will not summon u if u drive 91kmh in 90 zone!

If LTA set 100, you will be going at 110. Do they want you to go at 110? I doubt so. Thats the problem with people, always trying to go faster than speed limit. You got brain, so does the LTA

Very simple reason. Because not every speedometer in the world is 100% accurate.

Eg, your speedo may read 80km/hr but your actual speed could be 83km/hr. If they don't give you 10km/hr of "chance", you will get a fine, and you will say your speedo reads 80 and police will say no, their laser says 83 and blah blah .....

Then something must be wrong with my speedo. I always travel at 60-70 km/h at the Yishun exit at SLE. there's a speed detector there which shows you how fast you are travelling. It always show slightly more than 50 whenever I drive past there. lol

Firstly, as mention, get people margin of error

2ndly, to remove any margin of doubt & equipment errors. If you said he exceed speed limit by 1 km/h on 90km/h road then people argue his speed reads 69km/h how. Or he complain maybe your speed camera not accurate. If they have a margin of 10km/h, unless the person speedo or speed cam is totally crap, you can't argue if ganna caught.

3rdly, speedo meter are design to display higher than actual speed! How I know, my company is the number supplier for instrumental Custer.

If your speedo display 70km/h, maybe actual speed is only 66km/h. Reason is that spedo have tolerance like everything else in the world, hence instead of having accuracy of XXXkph +/- 2kph (where 2km/h is the tolerances), its safer to have XXXkm/h +0kph/-4kph, or even XXX-2kph/-6kph. It also avoid legal & complains by drivers to manufacturers if the driver get into accident or speed tickets & blame speedo error for the cause.

yes that is true....car speedometers will be slower by 10kph....u can check with a mechanic...this is also done for safety reasons.....

I reckon both devices are fine.

The speed detector caughts the speed of your vehicle at that very moment.

Whereas your vehicle may e decelerating or accelerating .... next time, maintain a constant speed - from the moment u approach the exit, and as u approach the speed detector.

You'll probably notice the accuracy of it - I'm driving a Civic (the one with digital speedometer), .. and mine tallies EXACTLY!

i can confirm that my car speedometer is 10km less than the actual speed. this is after i upgrade from stock 14" wheel to 15".

it's easy to find out when using GPS.

I think u meant the the true speed is reflected as faster speed on the speedometer.

ie the true speed is 90km/hr but speedometer is 95km/hr

maybe it's only the tire size problem. [laugh]

i dunno maybe its tyre size problem....anyway im used to it....but i read some where that speed on a car`s speedometer is faster...

some info on speedometer

Speedometer

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jump to: navigation, search

An animation of an Aston Martin speedometer, showing how an eddy-current speedometer indicates the vehicle's speed.

A speedometer is a device that measures the instantaneous speed of a land vehicle.

Now universally fitted to motor vehicles, they started to be available as options in the 1900s, and as standard equipment from about 1910 onwards.[1]

Speedometers for other vehicles have specific names and use other means of sensing speed. For a boat, this is a pit log. For an aircraft, this is an airspeed indicator.

The speedometer was invented by the Croatian Josip Belu

Speedometer accuracy

22 Mar 2010

Speedometer

Wondered why you're driving at 100km/h and cars are overtaking like you're standing still? It could be their speedometers are more accurate than yours.

Many motorists have been in touch with us about the accuracy of their speedometers. They have cause for their concern.

The rise of in-car GPS units has given drivers another way of measuring their speed. Only one driver who contacted us had a speedometer accurate to within 1km/h of their GPS. Most were reading about 10 percent

Analogue gauge will have lag error due to the movement of the needle. But it is better for keeping eyes on the road as the eye peripherial vision will be able to tell a rough indication of the position of the needle.

For precise indication, a digital meter would be useful.

Well, they have to buffer lah, sometimes when during overtaking, speed will be up abit.
