No matter how "cheap" (depends on your own definition of cheap lol), I think it's wise to set aside $1K a month in total, for a cuddy cabin. Forget about those open dinghies, since going to spend on an expensive hobby, don't put yourself at risk of the elements. Petrol, parking, mainenance, installments, other associated expenses, drinks, bait, fishing equipment....it will add up wan. So i think "cheap" is not really the word to use...or maybe $1K to me is alot of money that's why i think so LOL

Many anglers share the costs.

Maybe 10-15 pple wil share the cost of a boat to make it bearable. Not everybody want to go out every day.

Sometimes a few go alternate week or some prefer to go on weekdays cos less crowded. Some bring GF out at night to have some fun on the boat.

Consider the sharing option 1st so at least u get the feel of how much it costs to maintain a boat here.

If u still hardcore after a year, then u might consider getting your own boat but most pple go out in a group of 3-6 pple to have more fun.

Going out alone all the time can b quite boring.

thanks for the clarification bro.

3k for a lifetime membership is seriously cheap and i did not know that if u need to park your boat u will need the membership until u told me so.all along i had tot that u will just need to pay monthly parking fees just like cars.season parking.

tink i have seen those with cabin and a canopy on top at the captain seating area.im more inclined to buy one of those.if it sips on petrol all the better.

most probably my boat buy budget by next year will be able to achieve 30k-45k.hope it will get me a good aircon cabin boat good for 6-7 pax and will not cost much repair.

had a fren who's family bought a resale boat and it sank the first few days they had it.tink he said it was a catamaran.came out papers last 2 years or so.whole family was in the sea middle of the nite.his pa tried to rescue everyone and in the end he died due to his old age and exhaustion.he said somethin on the boat came loose and water started to gush in.

hope somethin like that dun happen to me or my boat, otherwise no choice have to drag the boat seller in court.

Boating is not all fun. There r alot of dangers out in the sea. Leaking boat, storms, engine failure, hit submerged rocks or logs etc, pirates & so many others.

I go deep sea fishing regularly & I have encountered many times where I tot I wud not come back alive.

Treat the sea with utmost respect & it wil treat u well.

Always have a good cellphone in a watertight zip lock bag for emergencies & if u go far, a 2 way VHF/UHF radio is essential as it might save your life. Have a good GPS to know your exact location to call for faster assistance as the sea is a very big place & there r no road signs around to say where u r.

Life jackets r a must & all safety equip must b checked & updated when necessary.

Thats why I say rent if possible cos then all these things have to b taken care of by the place that rents u the boat.

A 20" Albacore walk-around fishing boat is a good buy with a small 150HP engine for some fishing etc in local waters. Going further & u will need a bigger & more powerful engine.

Let's say if someone is crazy enough to get a underwater pleasure craft, must apply for pleasure craft license as well? [:p]

=================

The SG Navy wil b very interested as to why u want 1 [sly] .

Now SG so paranoid, all pleasure craft must have a GPS transponder to relay to Port Authorities your position at all times.

They scared u do a "suicide bomber" on them. Our oil refinery is a very huge investment they want to protect at all costs.

U try to bring your boat near Jurong Island & the Marine Police boat always there wil chase u away. :D

Saw this neat "fish like" underwater craft. Very fast underwater and can "porpoise" like dolphin. Watched it on TV. Would be great to have something like this.

Most of the bigger boats(inboard engines) use diesel cos its much cheaper. Those boats can pump a few hundred $$$ of diesel at one go. [sweatdrop]

Disadvantage is its noisy, smoky & not so refined as petrol. Good is they r tough & more durable & have a better range.

Outboard all use petrol & these r for the smaller boats. U wil b surprised how fast a 5 gallon tank of petrol can run dry with a 200HP engine. [sweatdrop]

Boats only need to register & u also need insurance. The berthing or boatel costs & launching & retrieval costs also add up. U come back late or go out early & u need to pay extra OverTime charges.

Unless u r confirmed a real hardcore boating enthusiast, I suggest u rent a boat when u need. Keep your maintenance & running costs down. U only pay when u need to go out.

now i noe wats an inboard or outboard engines are! [;)]

bro, do u know wats the insurance like for a 20ft boat, boatel, launching & retrieval???

thanks in advance for the clarification

For pleasure craft, it's very very expensive to buy 1st party insurance, if they provide at all. It's only 3rd party, I've heard it's not expensive, because it doesn't insure much at all lol

U better check around with all the boatels for all the charges as they differ depending on where u keep your boat.

Insurance also they want to know some details b4 they wil quote u.

I knew someone long ago, a couple of his speed boats caught fire & no insurance company want to cover him even. [laugh]

U mean it has the Hamilton jet engine same as those in New Zealand?

Wow. I didnt SG boats used this technology. They r mainly used in clean & shallow waters only.
