Is it okay to road hog in KPE?

there is a catch 22 in KPE. Lane 2 sometimes get horrendously clogged up for long stretches especially with sliproads merging into it. I overtake in anticipation when seeing the pileup in front. So in essence, I'm up to about 75-80 overtaking many cars because that's my intention and then suddenly a gan jiong spider appears behind wants to go even faster. Sometimes its difficult to cut back into lane 2 because the speed is slower and I have to slow down to filter in, that's if other motorists will slow down to let me filter in which can take more than a fair bit of time not to mention creating a tailback on lane 1. So I proceed ahead instead until I find a comfortable gap to slot in safely going the highest speed I can go legally +10 to minimize tailback. I think not everyone wants to roadhog all the time with the pressure of being tailgated. You have to judge the on-road situation and there should be a flexibility between the 2 rather than defining the situation into all road hogs die camp or all speedsters arse camp.

I don't like road hoggers, but i think you captured the essence of the situation. I use the KPE regularly, and i see at least 4 or 5 other replies echoing your thoughts in this thread.

Speed limit is 70. Got speed camera here and there. Those cars from lane one oso cannot switch to middle lane for those speedsters to overtake.

I hate it most when I can't give way and the car behind manage to overtake somehow and then deliberately road hog in front of me.....

This 70 km/h is too slow to be called an expressway....

But u can't deny the fact that KPE is indeed still "more express" than other roads for most of the areas it serves even though the speed limit is 70kph. I'm sure many agree with this.

Anyway, to me expressway doesn't mean high speed road. Think of it as a "non-stop-and-go" road. ie, a road that has no obstacles like traffic lights, pedestrians, bicycles, and such that will make u stop or slow down considerably. That's what it is, really. Being allowed to drive at high speeds on such a road is a bonus not a must.

First is the stop line, next is the pedestrians' crossing lines.

So you stop after the stop line before the pedestrians' lines right?

Just because to avoid these 2 wheelers and what if TP comes?

They have the right to book you as I seen them booking a cab driver before.

Talking about this topic, two weeks ago encounter a stupid idiot driving Subaru Legacy (dunno GT ornot) who roadhog lane 1.

I was rushing home from office to pickup my son from childcare as he is not feeling well. I was travelling in lane 1 until I closed up with that idiot Legacy driver who also on lane 1, as I slowly closed up to him. He suddenly switch on hazard light and slow down.

I was like "WTF". Didn't bother to honk or highbeam him, I switch to lane 2 trying to overtake. Then that idiot driver also speed up to keep same speed as me, trying to stop me from overtake him. I was being slow down by front vehicle on lane 2. He also slow down to keep in par with me.

With no other choice, I saw lane 3 has empty slot so I switch to lane 3 to overtake then swtich back to lane 2 again. That idiot driver saw it and keep in par with my speed so that I can't overtake from lane 1 (he know there are slow car in lane 2 & 3).

I was very frustrated but luckily still manage to control myself. Decided not to give him impression that I want to 'play' with him, I switch to lane 3 and slow down to est. 50km/h which is same speed as the truck infront. The idiot Legacy driver has not choice have to maintain his speed at 70km/h and go infront of me.

Hope that idiot Legacy driver has satisfied his ego to 'WIN' a pathetic 1.6 Altis. Also hope one day he dun stuck in same situation with other cars when his family sick or dying.

This kind of driver (That legacy driver) is very egoistic and perverted in my opinion.....

Considering that KPE is a long underground expressway, it could be a safety reason to limit the speed of moving vehicles to 70 km/h.

whenever faster car behind = move left for them to pass... simple

my mindset is even simpler.....

keep up or keep left

either keep up to the car in front (doesn't matter if you are at 50km/h or 150km/h)

or keep left whenever possible

But incidentally, I believe I saw somewhere in KPE no overtaking. I am against road hogging as well, but often when I travel on KPE on late evening when it is empty or weekends, there will always be idiots to keep tailgating me on lane 1 even all the other lanes ARE empty. .. yes EMPTY.

Then what I love best was this instance when all the other lanes were empty, this Altis die die want to drive in lane 1. I kept to the max speed of 80km/h then this Altis die die must overtake, I let him overtake then while he was cutting to the lane 2, the camera flash came up!!! I was ahahah "Serve you right@_@" then Altis guai guai slow down even though already passed the camera... it was really a JOKE!

so why must you die die take lane 1 when all the other lanes are empty? Mr road hogger?

I like this too.

Usually, I do not wish to exceed the speed limit by the 10kmh "allowance", I always look out for faster vehicles approaching.

Quickly signal left and find a slot into the slower lane.

Everyone happy, I also happy.

Yes, Keep Up or Keep Left. Very Nice... I LIKE!

Answer = 1.

By hogging it really inconvenience other cars that have the ability and balls to go fast no matter which part on earth you are on.

I was on the NSHW from SG to KL and KL to SG, along the way there was the occasional jams here and there and finally when I got to the front of the jam, it was a damn Singaporean car hogging the extreme right lane. To those SG cars traveling on the NSHW, do you know how EMBARRASSING it is that it is always the SG cars that is causing the jam by HOGGING?

Keep your bad habits at home please. OMG. And when you look at them while passing them on the left, they still got the nerve to show the WTF Face....

GET OUT OF THE WAY!

in a generic scenario with a car that can do 150++

1

or 3. Speed up and zip to lane 2 once it's clear... if uncomfortable with speeding drop back to answer 1.

risk losing control?... answer 1 lo... straight forward... let other ppl pass u den u zip back to lane 1 to continue ur rush...

interesting.... the scenario I put forth above, did state that if select option (1), means getting stuck behind the slower vehicles on the left. Stuck means, stuck there with no way of moving back to lane 1 or overtake for a while.

You mean to say, you will risk this (even when rushing to hospital, life&death situation)?

Then indeed, I will satute you for self sacraification
