Osiris 1st Gear June 7, 2010 Share June 7, 2010 Drivers should alert police of potential accident scams AFTER reading the report ('Trio in fake witness case to be charged', last Friday), I wish to relate a recent road accident I was involved in. Last Wednesday, I was driving on the Tampines Expressway towards Sengkang at about 6.20pm. Traffic, as usual on any normal weekday peak hour, was heavy. Suddenly, the car in front of me came to a stop. I slammed on the brakes but could not avoid hitting it. Four cars were involved in the collision and mine was the last. Fortunately, no one was hurt and all parties involved exchanged contacts and took photographs of the accident scene. Minutes later, the Expressway Monitoring and Advisory System (Emas) vehicle recovery service came to our assistance. It had to move the third car and mine to the road shoulder as our engines could not be started. A Land Transport Authority marshal arrived minutes later to check if everything was all right. While I was making phone calls to my insurance agent and car dealer to arrange for a tow truck, my husband and I saw a woman driver stop her car on the road shoulder. She told us she was a private agent offering settlement and tow truck services. A male driver had also pulled over on the road shoulder and was loitering around listening to our conversation. He was shooed off by the marshal. An Emas driver told us that whenever accidents happened on the expressway, he would see this duo appear on the scene. I wonder how they manage to turn up in such a short time to offer 'assistance' to the affected drivers. They could very well be part of a syndicate whose drivers swerve into lanes and suddenly hit their brakes, so that cars behind them have to slow down or stop abruptly, causing accidents. These drivers would then speed off. We heard from our friends about other instances of such 'agents' pulling over at accident scenes to offer their services. As laymen, we are unable to prove that such accidents are staged, but the police mentioned they might open the case for investigation if enough such suspicious accidents arise. I encourage all drivers who encounter similar incidents to inform the police. If we do not act, vehicle insurance premiums will continue to rise. Drivers should not become innocent victims of such scams. Yattokame 4th Gear June 7, 2010 Share June 7, 2010 absolutely 3 different hunters somemore the best part is, straight after we took pictures and parked our vehicles by the side, another accident occured, exactly the same way. For the 3-4 hours we waited for the tow truck, we counted 6 cars getting into the exact same accident at the same spot. Big bucks for those hunters! Qpik Supercharged June 7, 2010 Share June 7, 2010 well, not just that. don't tailgate doesn't mean you won't get into an accident. My case, car behind whack into me. without tailgating, u will have enuff braking distance should someone jammed brake for no apparent reasons. those lookg out to stage accidents normally look for tailgaters. been caught in these scenarios before and must say that i have been successful not to fall prey to it. worse case, someone reared you & compensate you better than you end up compensating the other parties right. Aonz84 Neutral Newbie November 12, 2010 Share November 12, 2010 I am writing regarding a very serious fraud carry out by Kim Chwee Auto Pte Ltd. I do not know will I be implicated into any legal issues by mentioning the alleged culprit, but I do have two case of staged accidents encountered by my family members, hence I do believe I have concrete proof to backup my claims. My brother was involved in a accident, he bump into the rear of a limited edition Fiat. Kim Chwee Auto tow truck appear within minutes. In fact my brother was the 4th car and Fiat the 3rd, and the 1st car was the car that E-brake for no reason. Coincidently, the Fiat driver was my brother friend's friend. Both of them are contacted by Kim Chwee Auto, and Kim Chwee Auto are using hard selling and aggressive selling pitch to selling their services, including discounts, waivers and vouchers which probably will be useless as the costs are flexible. My brother will be lodging a police report and to LTA as well, hopefully they can review their camera on the expressway. They cant possibly allow cars to E-brake for no reason. Apparently, the insurance agents knew about Kim Chwee Auto, and they told my brother they are infamous for staging accidents. To all road users, please do take note, once this kind of incident occurs to you, settle your insurance first and find time to lodge police reports, for the sake of your family members and friends who drives as well. The story did not just ends here. I was getting my cousin to help write into other forum and realised the 7 cars piled up he was involved in was staged as well. Everything was the same, car E-brake, cars rear-ended, and KIM CHWEE AUTO tow truck appeared. Unfortunately, my cousin gave into KIM CHWEE AUTO's aggressive tactic and gotten their service. Their service was disgusting, employees are arrogant, claims wasn't even settled yet. Hope KIM CHWEE AUTO employees does not come to any good end. You got the point. You are right. However, can try to avoid accident even better. Ever encountered those vehicles with faulty brake lights (they braked and stopped but brake lights did not light up). Precaution: also look at the wheels besides the brake lights

I believe such staging more successful as many drivers prefer tailgating at same distance irregardless of driving speed, road condition (wet/dry). Let us hope you and the Authority success in this investigation and follow-up actions
