Flyguy63 Neutral Newbie June 14, 2010 Share June 14, 2010 As the above thread, any Bro/Sis installed them on their ride?Considering installing it on mine, but concern about the reliabilty and other unforseen issue although it comes with a year's warranty. ↡ Advertisement
Mini-itx Clutched June 15, 2010 Share June 15, 2010 Nope, never install. I don't see the need for a push start button. Whats so difficult about turning the key to start the car?
Khimwoon Neutral Newbie June 15, 2010 Share June 15, 2010 i'm thinking about that option too but worried about the quality issue... cos 1 year warranty is a bit too short... realised the best way and the safest way is still the good old key... save the money for other mod... RayTan Neutral Newbie June 15, 2010 Share June 15, 2010 My 2nd hand Getz comes with it when I bought it - The owner fixed it below the A/C knob. Been driving it for a year liao. Till now, it gave me no problems. I don't think there is an issue to such connection. Although, I still don't understand why people do it...haha..watse $$$$
Zyrofillica 1st Gear June 15, 2010 Share June 15, 2010 (edited) imagine u were walking back to your car in a desolate carpark late one night, 6 sarawak men jump you with knives intending to rob you. In the initial attack, your left hand was severed. you fight off your assailants and make a run for your only hope of escape, your pimped out ride sitting just metres away. As your car automatically unlocks because u installed the latest viper alarm module, which detects your key within 5 metres of the vehicle, you open your door and jump in as your attackers are temporarily dazed by ur module as it blurts out in a sultry female tone, "VIPER DISARMED! WELCOME BACK BIG BOY." you yank open your door with your right hand and just as you are about to close it, the fastest assailant, who happens to be also carrying the biggest machette, manages to cut 4 fingers off your remaining hand, with only a thumb intact, HOW ARE YOU GOING TO GET YOUR KEYS OUT OF YOUR POCKET AND START YOUR CAR TO MAKE YOUR ESCAPE? you are in luck! Along with those bling bling rims and pimped out external and internal modifications you have invested in, you have also smartly installed in a push button module. Wise choice! As u kick the wryly bustard away from you, you use ur left elbow to mash in the start button. Your zhnged turbocharged engine roars to life as you clumsily shift to 1 with the intact palm on your right hand, without bothering to close the door(seeing how it would be difficult with only a thumb left, regretting why you hadn't installed those automatic closing scissor lambo doors eh?) , you mash the accelerator to the floor and..... get only 10 metres before your assailants catch up and drag you squirming out through the open door. Your big ass zhenged turbo has yet to spool. Turbo lag unfortunately has caused your demise and bloodshed ensues. morale of story? none. Reason to install a push start button? I have given you one. Unfair 3rd Gear June 15, 2010 Share June 15, 2010 I drove the Lexus GS300 that had this features inbuilt. You have a key transponder in your pocket. To unlock the door, you put your hand to the handle then the door unlocks, i think they have a sensor there. Then just open the door. To lock the door, you have to press a button on the handle after closing the door, then it locks. Then once in the cabin, just press the red start button, the steering column moves down and engine is started. Drive as per normal. For aftermarket products, i suppose it auto unlocks the door when transponder is within certain signal strength. Auto locks when signal strength drops below certain level. Some cars have immobilisers built in, meaning you might have to sacrifice an original key to use the push start button and drive without starting key. The stupid TypeRs have to push the button and then insert key to start driving, which defeats the purpose of push start right??? The driver cannot turn the key meh ?? My other concern about aftermarket keyless entry is their capability to consume more electricity from our battery thus resulting in premature change or replacement of car battery though it might not be too significant an amount.
